Hey all.

We are from the uk & have been reading your posts, over the last few weeks..we recently purchased our first ever panther chameleon, ( we named him hyperian means the great one ) he was 14 weeks old and we got him last Friday ( so a week today )

We are not sure if he male or female reptile shop said you couldn't tell untill around 6 months ish ,

We built a customised vivaruim out of a display cabinet , as the U.K. Is quite cold. We wanted wood , glass & mesh ( just making sure everything is ok ) please feel free to comment if there is anything you can advise us on,

We got a 2 in 1 basking light UVB & UVA 12 hours a day.
We got a ceramic heater temperature controlled for night time. Keeping temperatures around 30 cel humidity between 60-70 night temperature a bit cooler at around 27 cel feeding meal worms , wax worms now & again & live crickets & locus ,using calcium dust with every feed haven't yet used calcium & vitamins yet as not sure when too. misting around 6 times at minute untill we get a misting system we have live house plants & rope vines & hanging vines at the moment everything seems perfect he's eating & drinking fine. Started to take food from hand today goes slightly red underneath when he comes out of enclosure we let him come out on his own without picking him up we also gut feed his food with oranges & carrots .

Will attach a picture of his enclosure & him

Nice to meet you all
By the way we already have fallen in love with him / her

If he/she will let you get a whole body picture in profile with the tail sticking straight out we may be able to tell you what sex.

That's exactly the right shot. I'm not a panther pro but so far that looks like a girl to me. I would wait for others to chime in before you change the name.

The enclosure is very attractive. Once those plants start to fill in it will be perfect. The shop told you 6 months before you can tell? That’s very false. Most breeders sell there animals at 3 months, and are 100% sure of the sex. I would lean towards female, but I don’t breed them, so I don’t have to tell the difference often. Also, you can let that night temp drop much more. 18 Celsius is fine for a night drop.

Thanks Jack, we love her/him loads already either way we are fascinated by them we didn't realise how amazing they really are can watch them for hours, even if it's a girl we think we will keep the same name it just seems to fit, thanks for your reply

Hey Goose thanks for your reply we spent a bit of time researching on enclosures to try get the best for him/her we even put vents in the sides and a drainage system, were looking to get a misting system soon as don't want to keep opening the door and scaring her, the reptile shop seemed to get a few things wrong firstly said it would be ok in a fish tank (aquarium) once we researched it was completely false I'll let the night temp drop a bit as we can adjust it on the temperature control, we don't mind male or female but just a bit panicky about eggs for a first chameleon I think a male would be easier, also we asked the exact age of her and they said between 14 - 16 weeks as there not sure of the batch which is slightly confusing so we don't acutely know if she's slightly younger, but thanks for taking the time out to reply it means a lot,
