I also will take pics today... these are a few months old now. My only concern with him is that he has a few black dots on his cascade in the front and back... His mood and actions seem fine so I am not worried but I just dont know why he has those discolored dots..

Welcome! :)

He looks great!

As for the black spots, it may be a bruise, bite, or a burn. If you can get close up pictures we can tell you.

On the picture of him eating the cricket you can see them. Its only a few small spots..... When I get home I will take more

I was looking at other pictures..... like the male yemen in the photo contest of 11 and seen that he had them too... It might be normal. I will upload pictures later on. He is due for another photo shoot. lol

Now that he is older I feed him 2 times a week. Is that too little? It keeps him lean but sometimes I worry. When he was little I did a lot more. I just dont want him to be fat and careless when it comes to eating. I want him to appreciate and stay aware when it comes to food. I believe it makes him a better hunter. Let me know what you all think.....!!!

The ridges on their faces and the lobs down the sides of the casque (the 'flaps') go almost black in adult males. Here's a pic of my dear old Tommy.

A lot of members on here feed them every other day. What type of feeders do you feed him and how many?

ahh... so it looks like its just part of the aging process. That makes me feel better. Your Tommy looks pretty mean. How big is he?

I feed him about every 3-4 days.. Either crickets lightly dusted or maybe 1 or 2 small fuzzy mice. Its been a while since I messed with worms. They love to crawl under the terrain in the cage.

He was approx 4 years old (about 2 years old in that pic) and about 18 - 20 inches in all iirc. Sadly, he had a tumour on his liver and is no longer with us. I still love to share his pictures though!

How ofted did you feed him. Sometimes I feel like I starve my Cilantro by making him wait 3-4 days but I feel it keeps him on his toes when it comes to food. He doesnt drink as much water as he use to but I monitor his behavior and eyes for signs of dehidration but he always seems healthy. Maybe he drinks when I am not looking. He is very cautious when it comes to humans or interaction. He doesnt like to be handled so I dont handle but every week or 2 or 3 haha...

I don't know about feeding him every 3-4 days. Maybe Sandrachameleon will chime in on this. As for the fuzzy mice, a lot of members on here don't recommend it. It is apparently hard for chameleons to digest.

Terrain? Do you mean substrate? If so, you should take it out. There have been cases of chameleons accidentally eating it and becoming impacted.

Welcome to the forums. Your cham looks great. :)

I would definitely feed every other day at the least. Every 3-4 days is too little, especially because he doesn't appear to be completely fully grown.

You should only feed him mice very occasionally, if ever. Animal protein is very difficult for chams to digest if they get it too often. Besides, there is a lot of fat in mice that they really don't need. And think about it... would a veiled chameleon ever be eating mice in the wild? Not likely. Small lizards every now and then, yes, but never a mouse.

If you want something bigger than crickets, roaches are a great feeder option that are very nutritional for chams and much easier to digest than mice.

Yeah, I dont do the mice tooo often because I do notice that they dont process it very fast. He eats a mouse every few months but I have slowed down a lot.

Yes Substrate, but I dont have anything crazy like moss or dirt. Its just chips of coconut to keep moisture to help keep humid. They are big so I dont see a problem but IF he did eat one I could see a real problem. Ill post pics up later to show what I have going on in his cage..

Great Info!! yeah I will keep the mcie down to a minimal. The only problem with roaches is that I dont know where to get them where I live!

The only reason I give him Fuzzy mice is because I dont see a lot of nutritional value in the crickets... also he doesnt eat any kind of veggies.... I should try to introduce this? And how? he hates it when i get into his cage
