I can't get it hot enough

With a 100 watt halogen bulb about 6'' away from the highest point he can reach, the temp peaked at 88 degrees after a half hour.

As a result of me posting long after I should have been in bed, this was inaccurate.

The temp peaked at 78 degrees not 88

It has been on for three hours today and has not gone above 80 degrees.

I don't understand this at all. I tried a zoo med 100 watt halogen placed 6 inches away from the screen and it was way too hot. I got rid of it quick, it would have most certainly burned my chams. Doesn't make any sense to me! If you have it right on top of the cage and he's six inches away, I would be scared to death of burns. Just be careful. David

I don't understand it either because according to everyone the 100 watt shouldd be way to hot. I've been monitering it carefuly and it still has not gone up above 80 degrees. I will continue to monitor as I too am scared that he will get hurt. But he actually spent quite a bit of time in his basking spot today so I think he likes it where it is at.

Put an object where you expect your cham to bask, and leave it there for
ten minutes or so and then measure the temp of that or just feel how hot it is. I'll bet it will heat the object but it's just not heating the air at that point. Whenever I move a light or get a new type or wattage, I always put my hand at the highest point I think my chams can get to and leave it there for a few minutes so I can see how hot he will get. It usually feels fine at first and after a few minutes it becomes very hot. It's the only thing I can think of as to why your temps aren't going up. Good luck. David
