I didn't kill my magnolia!

At the end of last summer, i bought a magnolia tree on clearance. I thought for sure I killed this poor tree with over pruning, but after 3 months, it's starting to spring back with new buds and today.... Some leaves!

Yay! This will make a great free range for my new chameleon friend.

I thought deciduous Magnolia trees flowered before they put out new leaves in the spring? I think you've confused it living indoors.

BTW, when is your new little friend arriving?

I've definitely confused it by moving it indoors. I'm not sure even which type of magnolia it is. I don't really care if it blooms. I just wanted a nice free range tree.

As for my new little friend... He will be here after the holidays as soon as the weather allows! Hehehe!

I may have waited until the eleventh hour, but I had a feeling I was going to be right one time this year!
I can now rest on my laurels for the rest of the year, what a relief.

Lol. Out of curiosity, what is the plan for the magnolia? Is it intended for an outdoor free range when warmer temps roll back around or indoors?

Probably a little of both. I need to reconfigure my giant outdoor cage, but for one month a year, the temperatures are perfect for outdoor times.

I'm plant stupid, so I couldn't tell you :D It was on clearance, in a green pot, and had a hand-written tag labeled "Magnolia". I don't think I have any good photos currently - I had some of the process uploaded into blog posts, but the photos didn't transfer with the new forum site. If I can dig any up, I will. essentially, I formed it from PVC trim, flat stock, and plastic hardware cloth. I wanted it to be light enough for a little person (me) to move by myself and somewhat modular, but it wasn't as sturdy as I had hoped. I will probably remake it next summer with a master-frame made of PVC tubing.
