I got a new Veiled!

I picked him up on friday, we are calling him Rusty!

I would like to know if you have anymore imput I might need to keep him in excellent health! Losing Wasabi to MBD really broke my heart...I've never had a pet die from anything other than old age before, I still feel awful.

So I have an Exoterra 10.0 UVB bulb (I finally found somewhere around here that sells the zoomed ones, so I will replace it soon) and a regular light bulb to keep his basking area in the high 80's low 90's. Theres another light fixture(fluorescent)but its for the plants.
I am gutloading my crickets with sweet potatoes, apples and carrots and with T-Rex calcium food for crickets. I am dusting 2-3 a day with Rep cal calcium with D3...it says to add heptivite so I will be getting that too...but for now Im dusting with the repcal. I also have Calcimize water conditioner but Im wondering if that might be too much?
Humidity is around 30-40, so I ordered a mister, but for now I am spraying him 3 times a day.

So far he seems really happy, he's wandering around everywhere and found his food cup after like 10 seconds. Hes eating well and Ive seen him drink at least twice a day. My wife was laughing at me this morning while I was on my hands and knees looking for poop.

Please, I really appreciate any imput!!
Thank you,
DEEJ

Congratulations on the newest member of your family! About how large is the cham, snout to vent? It looks like a gravid female to me (but maybe I'm just seeing things- it's still early in the AM for a Sunday here on the sunset coast). Are there tarsal spurs on the heals? Very pretty. And very healthy looking.

The coloring looks like excited or defensive coloring for a sub-adult of either sex.
I am sure you checked for tarsal spurs before naming him.:)
Good luck, it looks like you have a nice healthy animal.

Thank you for the links, I will ease off the D3.
Rusty is definatley the male, and I dont think he was too happy with his reflection from the camera! His spurs and feet edges are a rusty color, as well as the ridges along his head and back--hence the name:) He is 5" snout to vent.

He's adorable! His bar pattern is excellent. Looks like he's going to be a big husky boy. Been so long since I had a subadult male veiled, I forget what the little guys look like when they display. I just got another cup of coffee, though, so, I'm starting to wake up now.

Gorgeous little guy! But you should NOT be using D3 every day. More like once a week.

I certainly hope that you will use all the advice and websites posted here for you. I also hope that you have located a local vet so the same thing that happen to Wasabi want happen to this little guy.

Get the Repcal without D3-too much D3 can be bad. Also-in the picture I see some mossy stuff? Veileds will eat anything and you don't want to risk impaction. Nice little guy you have there!

Thanks :D The cocoa peat is completely glued on, I dont think he can get it off. I hosed it down after I built it to make sure there werent any bare patches.

But can't you still pull "threads" off of it? That is what your cham will do. I have some that I had to take the fake vines out because they will pull chunks off of those.

Beautiful fella. I love the yellow and the puffed up size. He's going to make you a great adult. Congradulations.
