Here he is! Sencha! A blue bar ambilobe I am told...the place I got him from has mixed reviews but he looks healthy and I am taking him to my herp vet soon.

...He is a boy, right? What age do you guys think he is? He is about 3.5 inches from snout to vent.

Edit: I was told his sire is from FLChams. I am not sure which one though. Lemme try to find out.

I can snap better photos if needed.

I think he is a she . he/she does look happy

Maybe a couple more of profile pics?

I will snap a few more really quick. You want them from the side at face on and no angle, right?

BTW (s)he is starting to show light blue in the cheeks.

Side shots or her tail is what I am looking for. Like the second pic. The blue on the cheeks is normal even for females.

I am almost 99% sure thats a girl and would love to hear what everyone else has to say.

Edit : The light orange/pink color has me curious as well.

I think its a she also. I can see the bulges in my 2 month olds already. They are tiny but there. She is beautiful though!!!

I just took more photos- resizing and uploading at the moment.

:( I wanted a boy and was told that she was male. When will I need to put laying substrate at the bottom for her? Any speculations on how old she is? I am going to call the guy I got her from and ask some questions.

Thanks again for all of the replies.

BTW about her color- she is light tan and orange with bits of pink when asleep.

If I had to guess I would say 3-4 months old. Probably in between those numbers. Not sure about the laying substrate but you should have months before you need that.

Those are female colors. Where did you get her?

 I just got off the phone with the "breeder".

Apparently she is 2 to 2.5 months old, blue bar/red bar ambilobe cross as was her mother- the father was a blue bar from FLChams...mother was possibly from Screameleon lines.

I am rather upset because when I bought her I was told that she was a pure blue bar male. I don't know much about sexing panthers so I went with it as she was the only panther at the show and I saw little bulges and blue cheeks so I assumed that it was correct.

I feel so dumb now.

The "breeder" got mad at me for asking so many questions- I asked him what lines she came from (meaning FLChams and Screameleons) because I wanted to look up her grandsire to see what kind of colors she may throw and he kept just saying she was a blue/red mix and couldn't tell me the name of the grandsire.

I wanted to breed pure locale when she matured....

Its a she

As she as a she can be. (if actually 3-4 Mo. old)
You need to have a talk with whomever sold HER to you.
you also need to let us all know who this unscrupulous seller is.
If they cant tell the difference by the age this one is, they have NO business selling Chams.

The seller is Kyle at Reptile Guyz in Vancouver, Washington. It is a new business and he advertises on Craigslist a lot. I was wary at first (should have trusted my instincts I guess) but he was at a reptile expo recently and had chams. They had red phase juvenile veileds and my little girl and they all seemed to be in great health so I bought Sencha for $250.

I just got off the phone with him and he said that at the expo he had told me that she MIGHT be a boy OR a girl because he had apparently taken two and sold one (he said Sencha was for sure male at the expo) and that he had bred her from his own panthers.

For the record, he seems like he knows what he is doing...sort of. The chams are well taken care of but I wish I hadn't gotten Sencha now because I really wanted a male but am now committed to her. :(

She is pretty, of course, but not what I wanted in my panther.

Besides all this, I have Jacksons babies on the way. So much to handle!

sorry that you got the wrong sex, but its a girl for sure.

It seems like a lot of newbies lately have been getting dooped into the wrong sex chams.

maybe we should start a thread on here listing shady sellers/breeders.

unhappiness????

if you dont want a female, sell her to someone who does. this is totally understandable and i hope she gets a new home and you get the male that you would like. The breeder got mad at you ??? WTF!

whats the title of this thread? My first panther cham? Well here is a chance to get another one! :p just trying to make you feel a little better. Yeah I would be mad myself if I'm looking for a certain thing and its not what it appears to be. You paid a good amount of dollars for a silly mistake like that. I too bought a panther few weeks ago, I wanted a male but later assume it was a girl. People on the forum confirm to me its a male and the breeder emailed me and told me he was certain. Sure hell looks like a female to me still.
