I am going to get a nosey be panther chameleon and i dont know what to do i can ither get a male nosey be for $350 or 50 50 chance of getting a male for 250. i would rather not deal with infertil eggs so what would you guys do in this situation. i have heard of females being harder to take care of but i dont know if its true.

Are you buying from a pet store? I'm not sure why the seller can't sex the cheaper baby but I would spend the extra money and get the male. If this is your first chameleon, I recommend a male for sure.

Someone was discussing this the other day and I'm pretty sure you can request a male.

If I remember correctly the other day someone was expressing the same concern on a thread and LLL's reply was you can request a male and if for some reason they send you a female still you can return her and they'll send you a male.

For that kind of money, I would recommend getting one from the Kammers. You'll know exactly what you're getting and they have the family tree records. Consider the babies from the sire Elrond. He is spectacular.

I'm lucky enough to live in the LLLReptile zone, so can deal with them in person and I will say that they are at the top of my list for customer service. If they say you can request a male and return if it proves to be a female, they mean it.

I was going to get a veiled from them, but noticed the site says nothing about specifying the sex of the chameleon. I called the store and spoke to someone and he said that when you are ordering, there is a special notes box or something(it's been a few weeks ago) and you just type in there if you want a male or female. He was really nice and I'm sure if you had any questions you could call and talk to them. Hope this helps!

Only get a female if you plan on breeding. Breeders are only getting 3-5 years out of their females due to the physical stress their bodies go though from laying eggs. Believe me, get the male for $350.

Females aren't just for breeding. I know plenty of people who have females and they don't breed. They got them specifically because they wanted a female. It is true that laying can shorten the life span but this is if you breed them. A female laying lower infertile clutches don't have these problems.
