I Made a Lawn

This is a large Reptibreeze for my grasshoppers. I have the substrate tray with 50% organic soil, 25% coconut fiber, and 25% sand. I planted about 10 wheat grass plants, which were root bound so I split them in half and scored the roots with a razor before planting. Up top is a 2.5% UVB from Arcadia which is made for bird cages. Then a 18.5% Arcadia Jungle Dawn LED to grow the grass. I also have a basket for other fresh greens like mustard greens, boo Choi, alfalfa, etc. Let’s see how this goes!

what, how, what? this is amazing!

Nice!! I had done the same but underestimated how tall the wheat / rye grass roots would get. Been meaning to try again. The grasshoppers loved it, especially the babies. Where did you get the feeder cage in the middle?

Nicely done! Someone gave me a tip to drape fabric over the opening with a slit down the middle (I used fine mesh like used for drainage). I helps to keep them from flying ouy when you open the door.

Thanks! The feeder basket is just the cover for the heat lamp but turned upside down. I screwed it into a stud in that wall. The mesh screen hanging down is such a smart idea. They jump like a herd mentality. It’s like a pile of fireworks. When one goes off they all go off!

The root systems on this grass are wild. Almost no dirt left. I bet it will do the same in my tray so I’ll have to replant after a while. No big deal. Splice it up and replant in new soil.
