I saw my Cham drink for the first time today!!!

Hi everyone, I saw my Chameleon drinking for the first time today. I have had him for about 2 months now. First I had a Habba mister, which I believe he was terrified of, and I misted him 2-3 times a day. He would just run away. Recently, I bought a Mist King system. It has been installed for a little over a week now, and this morning, I came into my room to get some clothes, and he was on the branch near where the nozzle sprays, with an awesome pattern on, dripping wet and all puffed up. His mouth was opening and closing. Then he caught a glimpse of me and took off running. I was always a little concerned, but never worried too much because his urate seemed to be white all the time, but now I am confident that the little guy learned to drink!!!:D

Great, its very nice wen we see our chameleons doing well.

The first time i saw mine drinking was cool, she did drink the water from the fake plants after i mist the cage and her color was fabulous.

Thanks, it's funny that you say that, because I was having a serious "case of the Mondays" when I woke up this morning, and seeing that just lightened up my day. I have been so cheery at work today. My wife is going to smack me, because she is convinced (and probably right in some way) that I care more about the Chameleon than I do her. I would imagine it's like seeing your child walk for the first time, or hearing them speak their first words. Well, I am prepared!!! LOL:rolleyes:

The first time I saw my chameleon drink was after a couple weeks of having her. It is very exciting to see them drink the firse time. Im trying the rodent water bottle watering way, because the chameleons are attracted to the shiny tip of the bottle as well as the dripping water.

th first time my cham ever drank was from my hand it was awsome:D

Ken, let us know how that works out.
It has always made sense to me that this would work and I know people have had chameleon's that will drink from a bottle like that.
I use drippers (as everyone knows) but being able to mount a water bottle on the side of an enclosure would save a lot of space above and I think it would be easier to fill and clean.

I have also wondered the same thing, if chameleons would be attracted to the shiny nob to be able to make it drip for them.

It may seem a little farfetched to use with chameleons, but I used to raise pigs to show them and in our pens we had a nozzle come down that had a little knob that they could hit with their snout and the water would shoot into their mouth.

Now if that would work with chameleons i think it would save a lot of watter because a lot of that water that comes from my dripper goes straight into the drain.

My First Post but Wanted to Share!

Lily, my female veiled, drinks from a water bottle most nights! It's like she has her bedtime routine! :D She'll go to her roosting spot, and when the heat lamp goes off I offer her the bottle and she will usually drink! She's such a sweetie! I also have a bottle hanging in her enclosure but have only seen her zap a drop off the end once. I use cooled (but still warm) boiled water which then remains warm due to the heat from the lights.

It took a long time of dripping the bottle in front of her before she realised that it was ok to drink from it. At one point I almost gave up trying, but, here in the UK we had a really hot spell and I thought I'd try her again and she drank from it straight away! It took a lot of patience (and aching arms from squeezing and holding the bottle) but it was worth it in the end!

I'm still waiting for her to realise that the hanging bottle is the same as the one she drinks from at night so I don't have to stand there and hold it for her!

Before this I had only seen her drink once and that was the day I brought her home (I got her in May) and she was very thirsty after the journey home!

I gave my Cham a shower the otherday (I say shower was more a mist) and he started to drink. Was very cute!! I've never seen him do it before. I used to be worried thinking he wasnt drinking! :)

Ice is nice

My male likes misting from spray bottle but only if aimed up and drifts down naturly but puttig a ice cube or 2 in same spot each morning over your plant or cup, my male veiled chem will almost run to it every morning ,try it only took a day or so

i am glad that other people did not see their cham's drinking either, when they first got them. i have had my cham for 3 days now, was a little worried about his drinking. :D
