So I have this plant hanging beside Waldo's enclosure and when I give him out of cage time I put a Flex vine from the inside of the cage to the plant. He loves it. Well the last week or so I have not been able to get him out much because I like to closely supervise him when he is out and lately I have been, Crazy busy. The last time he came out was also the first time I really got to hold him :). So I wanted to try have him come to me to get out of his cage and me put him on the plant so he would associate me with something he loves.

Anywho.....so I noticed the last two days he has been sitting at the front top of his cage and today I opened his cage to spray him down a little and he immediately put his little hands on top of the cage. I tried to keep him from doing that so he would not get into trouble with the lights and domes and he did not like that at all. I got the worst look, hiss and lunge....:(. I then tried to get him to come to me so I could out him on his plant but it was a no go. He thought about it all the while letting me know he was NOT happy with me. Of course he wasn't, he did not want me to bean obstacle in his path to the outside.....LOL

So tomorrow I will try again but will probably go ahead and let him out regardless, because it hurt my last feeling to deny him some time out, he does love to come out on his plant. BUT I worry he will get on top of his cage now that he has more confidence.
I should have known it would not always be as easy as he coming out and staying on his plant like a good boy :)
Whew sorry for the ramble....

Its ok ;) he will forgive and forget about it!!!!!:D He will be ok and no more top cage climbing MR

Sorry you got disappointed, but give Waldo some more time and he may just surprise you, sounds like he just wants to act out a little bit, but I know that once you get to hold them, you want to do it more and more....be patient Cammie, he will come around, you know he loves you.

You wanna know something... I've had Ringo 1yr come Feb 21st. I have yet had him willingly come out of his enclosure for me to handle him. He'll hand feed if it's just me in the room but nothing else. The other day we had to leave for 2 hours and accidentally came home to find him nudging his way out. He got up on top of his enclosure and got stuck. That whole time he was out he was dark and hissing at me. He finally decided to climb on my arm but he continued showing me his mouth... So I leave my babies alone. I give them the opportunity to come out whenever but I leave it up to them.

Thanks guys! One thing I do have is patience :) The Main thing I worry about is now that he has some confidence outside his cage he will try his boundaries.....wait....boundaries I don't even know if he knows what those are.....LOL. Maybe i need to write a behavior plan and post gold stars for him when he is a good boy. :p And when he isn't have him write sentences. Haha

I don't want him walking on top of his cage mainly because of the heat dome but also because it is pretty high and I can't reach it very good if something were to happen.

I knew once he got the taste for the out of cage time he would love it!

My guyz like to get on the roof of cages also. I just spread some dish towels over the wires and light fixtures so they can walk around w/o getting into any trouble.
None of the lights get hot enough to worry about a fire hazard, and with the towels over everything, it's just a lumpy surface for them.

They do like to park themselves on the UV fixture as it is nice and warm :D

I mainly worry about the heat dome. I have a silver one but I think it would be ok as it is just warm to the touch but it is hard to measure just how hot it really is. He came out on his mini free range today and was a happy boy. I got him off of it and was able to hold him for a few more minutes and I was a happy girl :D
