I (think) I am a genius...

Ok, I don't really think I'm a genius, but I have successfully rigged a (cleaned out) coke bottle as a temporary dripper until the one I ordered online arrives!!

Yesterday I posted a request for help in the health section of the forum, and with the help of some of you, realized my poor little girl was really thirsty! I have been misting, but apparently that isnt enough, hence the need for the home-made dripper.

What I did was empty and clean out a coke bottle, poked a hole in the cap with a thumbtack/pushpin. I also poked a hole in the side of the bottle at the bottom. It took many attempts to get the hole to actually drip the water consistently, but finally I figured it out. I put the pushpin in the bottom hole, laid the bottle down on it's side on top of the screen, and began pushing the pin in until the water dripped at the correct speed.

Here are a couple pics I snapped of it...let me know what you all think, good or bad!!

I thought I was a genius for a while.......but I've felt a lot more comfortable since I downgraded myself to 'talented eccentric' :D
Good work on the dripper, it'll do fine.

this is what i always recommend to people. the thing that sucks about commercially available drippers is you only have one outlet. and while the drip is adjustable its only one.

if you use a sewing needle and just use the tip you can get a nice consistent drip and you can make multiple holes for more of a rain effect. gallon jugs work the best. but water/coke bottles do just as well.

you can also put the cap on, and almost tighten it all the way and this can slow the drip for you. if you put it on all the way the vacuum with stop the drip completely
