I think my Chameleon is dying

My Veiled Chameleon is about 8 months old. About 4 days ago, I found Zeus on my floor. He was by the sliding glass door and it's been rather cold here. I do have the heat on, but near the door it's always cold.

Anyway, I scooped him up and put him back in his cage. I noticed that 2 of his legs were bleeding and they have booboos on them. I checked my cat, and I didn't notice any blood on my cat. My cat is declawed too. So I don't think my cat attacked him. I think he fell and hurt himself when he escaped his cage.

Anyway, I got him back in his cage. I watered him a lot and I moved the lights closer down to him, since he couldn't climb at that time.

Since then, the lights have been moved back to where they were and he was sitting on his highest branch. I've been making sure he's well hydrated by watering him religiously because I thought that was his original issue.

He fell off his branch today and he wont eat. I'm still watering him, but I don't know what to do.

He's a very mean Chameleon so I'm not sure what to do at this point. He wont let you hold him, he bites. He's more grumpy too.

He eats giant mealworms with calcium rolled on them.

My female chameleon is fine. She is fat and happy and doesn't escape her cage. She always eats and stuff.

Help. :|

You should probably take him to the vet immediately. Could be the beginning of mbd. Post pictures if you can. It's never good if they can't climb or hold onto a branch. He needs immediate care

Thanks for your response.

Is there a way to fix MBD? Also, where can I find a vet like that? I only know of cat/dog vets.

Sometimes your cat/dog vet will have a reptile specialist even though it's not readily available. If you can't find a location near you on the list provided above then call around to all of your local vets and ask for a reptile specialist. And mbd is treatable. The effects however aren't reversible but they can go on to lead full healthy happy lives otherwise. Still can't say whether it is or isn't. Filling out the how to ask for help form and taking pictures is the best way to get the most appropriate answers on this forum

Thank you so much. I made an appointment for 3:30 today. I feel so bad for him. He's always grumpy, but he's so much worse now. :(

Maybe he will be nice, once he's feeling better. Maybe he's been sick all this time. :/

I also partially blame Petsmart for not having decent food for chameleons. But I blame myself for not ordering offline.

He's fine!!

So Zeus is fine! He has a broken leg and he will recover in about a month. He also has a booboo on his arm. So we have him on antibiotics and some booboo cream. :)

The vet got him to eat and to drink water. Now to get this feisty rascal back into his sanctuary!

That is great news comparatively! Sorry to hear about the broken bone but you did the right thing taking him to the vet! Glad there are responsible keepers like you out there. Thanks for keeping us informed!

What is a "booboo"? Was the blood from a compound fracture?

Maybe your cat caused the injuries with his mouth and not his claws?. I have seen cats bite lizards down here in Florida. They will eat them also. I would make sure he is secure in his cage and your cat cannot get near him. I hope he gets better. What did the vet do for the broken leg??? They usually do not break bones from falling unless their bones are compromised to begin with like with MBD. Can you post some pictures of him?
