I think my humidity may be low.

My humidity level says its about 25-30 during the day with a spike to 50 when I mist. Is this too low? I've heard that 50 while misting is good enough but then I've read that it should be 50 most the time up to 70. I'm not sure what to believe.

I had the same problem as you. Added a humidifier and it has brought my humidity up much higher.

What are you using to measure your humidity?
That sounds low, you ideally dont want it to go below 50%.

It sounds a bit low. Do you have live plants in the cage? There's lots you can do to increase humidity.

I live in Arizona, so my general humidity was about 5% until i purchased humidifier. Now, it's 35% when I don't mist, so I had to order some ficus plants to get more humidity.

Does sound a little low. How many times a day are you spraying? You can mist 4-5x a day as long as the cage is drying completely in between. How warm or cold is the water you are misting with? I try to make sure that the water I mist with is very warm because when you spray it, hitting the air cools it a lot. If the water is too cold he might be running and hiding because of that. Remember what it's like if you've been laying by the pool nice and toasty and someone sprays you with cold water from a garden hose...sucks right?! I try to give all my chams a nice warm shower directly on them daily and more often to help when they are shedding. I've also heard that it helps them clean out their eyes. You'll see them wiggle their eyes around when they do. So funny!

Also, where are you measuring the humidity? I have a gauge that reads humidity and temps on one unit. When i have it in the basking spot, it reads 20-60 % humidity. But when i move it out of the spot and into the "wetter" areas of the cage not in direct light, it reads 65-95%

If you can get the humidity to sit anywhere from mid 40's% to high 60's% through out the day i think your ok ( someone correct me if im wrong). so to concur with everyone else it sounds a little low, but there are alot of ways to easily fix it, like some people have already said.

You can get a humidifier, try increasing the number of mistings or the length of your mistings, i have heard of some people using the zoo med repti fogger, but im not sure if its actually helpful or not. just something to look into.

I've attached some photos of my setup and the humidity gauge. I mist him 3 times a day with room temp water. I guess I'll try warm water. And i just bought him a pothos last night so hopefully that will help too. If you have any more suggestions let me kno! Also I just misted him 30 mins ago. thats why the humidity is up.

I would go get a new gauge. Those Zoo med are notorious for being wrong.. I had them when i started off. Then i went to home depot and picked up a dual reader for 10 bucks. Put it in the cage in the same place and it gave me completely different readings than the zoo med. For humidity and temps. Hope this helps

My vivs are about 40-45% when dry. When misting they reach about 70%.

If you are struggling to maintain humidity despite regular mistings you could try putting some plastic sheets/shower curtains on the sides to hold the moisture for longer. Never tried this myself but many people recommend it.

I recommend getting a digital reader for temp and humidity. I bought mine for like $15 from lllreptile.com with probes, works awesome.

I have 3 of those Zoo Med dual analog guages. My opinion is they work great. I have digi's with probes, digi's without probes.. spent quite a few dollars on different guages. I didnt know which 1's were correct! I broke down and bought an precision cigar hygrometer.... calibrated it and gotall my guages together for a little show down! Those so called crumby Zoo Med units were amazingly acurate The best of the bunch. All 3 were within a degree or2 in Humidity and temp. Another good thing about them is... No batterys or electronics..... Dave


This guage reads exacly the same as the expensive unit I have on the wall in my den & I keep my theromostat set at 72 in my apt.
