i use sink water to mist?

Some call it Tap water

But yes most use just tap.. I HIGHLY recommend "Repti-safe" water conditioner. It's blue liquid in a clear bottle with a turtle on it i think. Its removes chlorine and making it safe for reptiles. I use it as instructed in all water for alk my reptiles ajd never had a problem.
Available petco petsmart or PREFERABLY online from one of our sponsers :)

I use regular tap water. I have had no problems so far that I am aware of. I think it depends on the quality of your water and how much chemicals the water department adds to their water.

can you use the stuff for fishtanks?

It depends on what's in your water. There is no single answer to "is tap water safe?" There is evidence that fluoride is bad for chameleons and no additives will remove fluoride. I buy water that has been filtered by reverse osmosis to get rid of the fluoride in my city's water.

Most tap water will create lots of white spots on glass and plants.

If your local air is not too polluted and if you have a clean way to collect it then rainwater can be good. Plants love rainwater.

RO water is best.

Does tap water cause the white water marks on plants?

Not exactly. its the minerals in the water cause those marks.

Generally speaking, if the water is safe for you, it is safe for your pets. The degree to which your tap water is safe for you may be debated

I use tap water exclusively for me and for all my pets, including frogs. I rarely treat that water with anything whatsoever, including for the frogs. I am fortunately to live in a place where the tap water is of pretty good quality.

Fluoridated water contains 0.5 to 1.0 ppm fluoride, usually as the sodium salt. Fluoride has a narrow safety range. In mammals, deficiency is associated with dental caries and with osteoporosis in the aged. Fluoride toxicity (fluorosis), due to accumulation from long-term consumption of high levels, is associated with deformed bones and soft, mottled, and irregularly worn teeth. Animals fed diets deficient in protein, calcium, and vitamin C are more susceptible to fluorosis. Water sources containing high levels of fluoride are found in parts of Arkansas, California, South Carolina, and Texas and may be a risk for fluorosis. In reptiles, fluorosis can mimic the signs of metabolic bone disease (MBD)

To me, it seems like fluoridated water just makes the already difficult balancing act that is "chameleon nutrition" even harder. I'll drink the fluoridated water. I let my daughter drink the fluoridated water...heck, when I was pregnant with her (and when she was growing up) San Diego didn't fluoridate the water so I paid for fluoridated water...but I will not give it to my chameleons.

hi
was that link for the OP or for me? Ive read it before of course so no big news, but a nice reminder of the basics
There's some floride in my water (naturally occuring, not added (0.01 mg/L), and it hasnt hurt me or my long-lived healthy chams nor my frogs nor my birds nor the family cats and dogs..... So perhaps not a big deal, like most things, in moderation. Im more worried about chloramines than anything else, for my tap water. my water is also quite soft, so I probably care about adding minerals to diet more than people with hard water. everyones water will be slightly different. but generally speaking, i think most people who dont worry about drinking their tap water also dont worry about their pets drinking tap water. But Elizadolots is right - There is no single answer to "is tap water safe?"

I use tap water on my chams. I let the water sit overnight so the chlorine evaporates. Its not bad.

are you sure they still use just chlorine? most water treatments have stopped using chlorine and now instead use chloramines, for the very reason that chlorine evaporates and chloramines dont.

edit: if your water comes from fairfax, youre right they still use chlorine (and ozone). they also add fluoride.

Smart A$$ :D

Sounds like something I would say.

I used bottled water then switched to tap with repti safe and now that all my plants and even occasionally my chams head keep getting white marks I'm switching back. I can buy a gallon for under a buck.

I'm going to get a RO filtration setup attached to my sink eventually, especially since I want to get my nano reef set up I will actually need it.

Dan, I don't drink it all the time, we use the same water I get for the lizards most of the time, but I will drink a glass with my fiber powder occasionally. It was the realization that it wasn't just the water you drink, it's the water in your sodas, the water in your farm raised food which is raised with fluoridated water that made us add the "drinking water" to the house.

Sandra, the link was to everyone. In areas where water is fluoridated, it can be quite high. My city fluoridates at between 0.7 to 0.8 mg/liter. That's significantly higher than your area. I would probably feel safe giving my chameleons your water. There are places where the naturally occurring fluoride is over 1mg/liter.

So, I just think everyone needs to find out what is going on with their local water and make their decision based on that. Also, not all pets are created equal! What you might feel comfortable giving your dog is not, by definition, something you should feel comfortable giving your chameleon. It's certainly not something you should feel comfortable giving your fish.

Hrmm.. Maybe i'm missing something, but, what is fridge water?

EDIT: uh nevermind. I don't have one of those fancy fridges so I forget they can actually GIVE you water.
