I was told cocoa fiber could be used for a substrate?

I was told the same thing when I first got my chameleon.

If you already have the fiber, return it. You can easily keep up the humidity by buying a small plant like pothos or ficus, or even an umbrella plant. it will be MUCH easier to keep up humidity with a live plant.

Coco fiber can trap bacteria, give mold a place to form, and get damp and gross. It also gives crickets/worms a place to hide.

Throw out coco fiber and get a live plant :D Much better

Exactly what i was going to say.

Chameleons don't really need a substrate as much as they would enjoy a drainage system for excess water to run off into. This helps prevent bacteria and mold (that seems redundant to me).

Try to stay away from silk plants though, as they absorb the water and don't really do anything for humidity that helps the cham. I use 2 pothos and a jade plant, would rather have an umbrella plant but where i live NO ONE has them unless i wanna drive an hour away.

there's a list in case you don't have live plants in your enclosure. HIGHLY recommend pothos as they don't require much attention.

this all depends on where and what exactly you get.
if you get pothos, make it a golden pothos and both mine cost a total of 5.50 6.75 with extra soil for pots.

Grown pothos plants will cost a little more but normally come with a nice pot thrown in with it. (at least at my local shop)

Umbrella plants WOULD cost me 10 dollars for a 6 inch potted, but like i said they never have them.

(I SPEAK FOR JIMMY NOW)...

ANYWAYS... that's just me though. prices all differ from region to region.

Small plants (usually maybe 1 - 1 1/2 feet tall) like ficus and pothos are usually 15 bucks maximum.

Full grown, they can be up to 50$ at an expensive nursery.

I recommend getting two small plants (maybe one pothos and one ficus) if you have a small baby chameleon.

I would get maybe one tree-like adult plant (bigger ficus or umbrella plant) if you have an adult chameleon

You should talk to the folks at Home Depot, lowes, or the major hardware store near you. Someone has to be able to bring some in for you. Or are you an hour away from any of them?

20 minutes from a lowes but they don't currently have anything i can use that the flower shop doesn't have cheaper. and the two local flower shops have my number if/when they can get one in. Been waitin about a month. next town over is around a 50 minute drive just to see if i can find anything good. i go there maybe once every month or two so i may be able to check their flower shops... both small Podunk towns though.
