ID needed...

Amphisbaenia_1.jpg

Can someone ID this? Latin preferred. It came up from the ground in my yard after the rains of Tropical Storm Fay. It is sitting in a jar in the dining room.

Definately looks like something from the Amphisbaenia Andersonii family, but I can't quite make it out... Any more pics?

I'm not sure what it is, but I'm pretty sure I had nightmares about similar creatures when I was a kid!

god, what a monster.. i would go to some place that find new speices.. you never know. i found a butterfly that were a new one xD

Looks like a Slender blind snake

Leptotyphlops. Doesn't quite look like the western blind snake (humilis), but yours is probably the eastern variety. Great creepy picture!

I had one of those in my back yard too.
It was in the dirt. It was one just like that.
I live in Southern California.

HOLY CRAP, i was thinking tremors to, that is a funky little M'F'C'A'A

but looks cool...what an neat find.

The one i found in my backyard was about 6-8 inches long. It wasnt big at all but it looked exactly the same. I dont know the one Josh found could be bigger.

When I was a kid I was digging in my grandparents back yard after a lot of rain... I went in with the shovel and obviously chopped one of these and it started flailing in the mud... It had to be almost a foot long and pretty fat... I thought I ahd just found the largest earthworm in history, I ran inside to grab my Gandpa, and before I could get him to come and check it out, we found his Black Lab running around the yard with it... The dog ate it. That is the one and only time I ever saw anything like this in the dirt. I would love to know what these creepy little things are... Earth worm mutants!

You guys keep assuming my prediction was wrong... Are my predictions ever wrong? I bet Chris A would know exactly what this was.
