Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum and also a new veiled Cham owner.

I purchased a viva exotic vivarium for my Cham and have a misting system set up in the tank. I'm constantly worried about the bottom of the tank getting too wet and went out and purchased a tray for the bottom of the viv. The only problem is it doesn't fit perfectly so there's gaps around the edges of it allowing for insects to hide.

I went online and found websites that cuts plastic to whatever measurements you require. I was able to order black 5mm plastic that fits flush to the edges of the viv. I am in the process of putting it together. Once it's fully cured I'll post a picture of it in the viv

Just wanted to share the idea with you guys.

You should put some screen or something around that heat light so if your cham climbs it he doesent burn himself.

I had a slimline ceramic bulb in there previously but put a reflector in there, which is longer. Ive moved the plants etc so that he's not able to reach it. Thank you for the heads up though, much appreciated!

I got it from a website in the uk. It's made by viva exotic and it's the small aboreal vivarium in walnut. I paid around £180 for the viv and the cabinet stand.

The only problems I notice are that your cage has no screen sides. That can lead to Upper Respitory Infections. So if he starts 'popping' or 'weezing' you need to see the vet quickly and add some screen sides. Chameleons require airflow. Chameleons can get this very easily.

Something else is that your light is inside the cage. If it is the uvb light then you are fine until he grows up. If it is a heat lamp, you at least need to cover up to 3 inches down to prevent burns. Especialy when they grow up. Chameleons don't realize that they are burning but just sit there. So when he is older and taller, you should really remove it from the cage and put it on top. Not directly on top for it can heat the wire and also burn your Cham. Good Luck.

Hey thanks for the info, all much appreciated. The vivarium has three vents in the back, 1 at the bottom in the centre and 2 at the top in each corner. Also the aluminium tracks that the glass slides in has vented slots on the top and bottom that allow airflow.

In regards to the light I had a slimline ceramic bulb in there originally but I got worried using it as I read a lot that they can't see the heat unless it was visible light, that being said I've never seen him bask under the light. He has tried a few times to climb across to the light cage but I've moved everything away but I know that when he grows a little more he will be able reach. The company that makes the vivariums have a "spares" website and I'm waiting to hear back from them to see if they still make the top panel with the cut out in as I'm planning on putting the heat bulb on top of the Viv.

Thanks again for your feedback, it all helps!

Luke
