Ideas for dealing with spiders in the cham room?

I used to have my chameleons in the house and my cat kept the spiders and stray feeders under control. Now I have a great chameleon room built behind the garage where the cat doesn't go and I have a huge spider problem. I have the Costco racks and the spiders hide everywhere, in the wheels, under each shelf, above the shelf, etc. They do catch all the escaped feeders, but that just makes them more prolific!

Any good ideas? I don't want to use insecticide. Thanks!

That's true, you can catch or buy a little house gecko or two and he will probably be more than happy to take care of the loose feeders and bugs around the room.

I have some that sneak in every so often until I find them and let them go outside. They'll just end up as a dog snack if the pups ever find them so they're better off outside, I think.

Thought about the gecko, but they would escape from around my security screen door.

So had another idea- use my steamer to flush them out. I had to buy a new one since my old one died. This is the one I bought: http://www.costco.com/HAAN®-All-Pro-Handheld-Steamer.product.11702410.html#reviews
It worked great around the wheels of my bakery racks. If the steam didn't kill the spiders, it flushed out the big ones and I squished them. I also sprayed it in my drip trays and spiders crawled out of there too. It was a bad day for the spiders!:D

I would suggest getting a few geckos...

Other than that, Stay away from those ultra sonic high frequency repellents. They work wonders...BUT, if you have a dog it's a no no. Also not sure how your feeders would react to the sound aswell. Chameleons are def, so it wouldn't harm them.

This one has good reviews, but again shows that dogs bark, yelp, etc. when they hear the noise. It might work, just read up on it :)

We have a TON of geckos here, I can ship some your way ;) With the horses, we suck them in with a vacuum cleaner, we use the hose, and it sucks them right out of their nests.

For some reason the spiders can hide inside the wheels and the vacuum doesn't work. But the steam makes them run out.

How is Pixel doing? is he eating?

I am happy to have spiders in my cham room - and have them there to take care of any escaped crickets or roaches!

I don't mind a few spiders, but the females are laying eggs and when they hatch there are hundreds! I can never get them all, but would like to cut down on some of the big mommas!

They'll reduce in numbers if food source is inadequate (will eat each other also, if needs be)

My husband uses a vacuume cleaner to suck them out of corners, if he thinks he can get away with it (meaning with my not knowing, since I am against killing them - at the most I will pick them up and put outside)

I just let the spiders stay in the room. At my house they are mostly false widows if I notice an egg sack I will squish it if the numbers are high in the room. Or I go look for the big mom ones at night with a flash light and put them outside.
