I'm having trouble keeping thermometers attached to mesh enclosure.

I have thermometers that have sticky pads on the back but they won't stay attached to the mesh sides of my cham's enclosure. Does anyone have any experience with this problem and, hopefully, a solution? Also, I'm wondering why the velcro? Thanks ahead.

Hanging a meter

I leave the sticky pad alone and use a very thin wire, stainless is best. I use bare copper about #18 or #22. Thread it through the Velcro pad leaving about two inches on each side. Bend the wire 90 degrees at the edge of the pad and thread it through the screen. bend it again outside the screen and fold the ends over each other. You don't really need to twist the ends. It will help not twisting them as you normally would tie off wire if you want to relocate it later. Be careful not to stress out the screen or rip it as you do this. Cut off any excess as you need to.
Try not to let the bare copper get wet. The green stuff is poisonous. You might also use a copper wire with a thin enamel coating as used in small motor windings. It should not corrode in moisture.
I have had no problems or corrosion from the copper for nine months and have a misting, rain system.
Good luck.

Thank you so much

Thanks Greg, that sounds doable. In fact that is how my son fastened the vines & branches to the screen, very carefully I might add. :D

A couple other ideas...self-adhesive velcro (one half on the outside, one half on the back of the thermometer), or those self-adhesive strip magnets. Or, don't bother with a thermometer and measure various areas of your cage with a non-contact temp gun whenever you want to.

I rarely move one once I put it in my cages, so...hot glue it.

I also use a cooper temp gun. By doing that I don't need thermometers in all my cages. Very smart investment if you have multiple cages.
