I'm pissed off

My parents had guest and they were smoking in living room where I am keeping my veiled. (smoking happens few times a year in this room).

After guests went home I decided to check the cage if everything is OK.
I normally put a cover over a cage to make him dark. So I opened the cage and saw that he wasn't in his happy night colors. I turned room lights ON and saw 2 crickets munching him along his spine but he was sleeping but hissing a little.

I didn't want to wake him up but still wanted to get those crickets out. They didn't eat for a while so they would probably make him serious wounds. I managed to get one cricket to jump out of the cage and the other one escaped in the cover. Then I saw 3-4 dubias resting on branches and caught them. Than he woke up (I hate this:eek:) and I immediately turned oFF lights and made him dark again. I'll check him again later.

I'm lucky to saw this soon enough and stopped it. Now I really understand when u people say don't let the crickets inside the cage after lights are OFF.

From now on I'm hand-feeding him.

Well its good to hear the problem is resolved... Its sometimes hard to know what our chams have eaten or not eaten since our foods mostly come out at night. Anyway, good luck with the cup/hand feeding..should really make things easier from here on out.

Good advice!!!!

Is there no way that you or your parents can ask guests to smoke outside? If not can't you move the cage to your bedroom or a room where there is no smoke?

I cover the cage so the smoke doesn't come in and they don't smoke in this room at all. Only my mom smokes and never in living room. Only when guests arrive and this happens few times a year and only cigarete or two. I ventilate the room after.

And I can't move the cage.

Good to see a Chameleon lover from that part of the World! :D Awsome My heritage is from over there.

Ugh i hate it when people do that. CAN YOU BE A LITTLE CONSIDERATE! Im constantly yelling at guests who smoke anywhere near my chams...just venting a little

Lizardlover, I agree, even thought my mom has a no smoking policy, chams are sensitive! I would yell at anyone who did that.

New to chams but get really pissed when guests leave drinks on the canopy of my reef aqauarium. Or when my wife cleans and sprays stuff. My son has a beardy, turtles and dart frogs man does he get pissed when that happens.

My chameleon lives on the balcony of my apartment and the people living downstairs (who I HATE) smoke NON-STOP. You'd think being outside the fresh air might overpower it, but it's so bad I can smell it in my apartment sometimes. Considering one of them continued smoking non-stop throughout her pregnancy, I doubt they'll care about my "insignificant" chameleon.

 I would be more worried that people are smoking near the little guy!

I am sure you or they may move by this time... but, let us know when the short bus starts to show up outside of the apt. for their kid.... smoking is BAD:mad:

that was one good thing when we got our reptiles i enforced the non smoking around them and people for once respected the idea and go outside now when they need to smoke:D

as for the insects munching i always put some broccoli threaded through a vine at night so if any stragglers are left at night they eat that and not my baby :)
