my chameleon today was sitting upsiddown on top of the cage and she looked very skinny and streched out, plus she had dark spot over her, and im worried cuz she hasnt been eating, im not even 100% sure if she has eaten since i got her, but she has pooped 2wce , and most of those crickets died so i bought wax worm to fatten her, but she hasnt eaten any yet, i have them in two places.. some in a small cup on the middle side of the cage and some on the floor in a small tray, ad they are all there.. i dont know what to do, but today was the first time she didnt look too healthy..
i misted and she is turning green, but still has the black spots..
any help? temp is 73 the humidity was 50 before i sprayed and not is 60.. anyone? please..

* Humidity - i have alittle humidity guage thing and i keep it around 50, at night its about 65 up and during the day its lowest is 45 and i mist multiple times a day.
* Plants - two live plants, one ficus and one i dont know shaffella thing?
* Location - its on my dj stand and the top of the cage is about 8 to 9 ft.

Chameleon Info:

* Your Chameleon - Jackson, female, guessing 5 months and ive had it for about a week or two
* Handling - havent for a few days, but last time i had it out and made it fall alseep a few days ago.
* Feeding - i had crickets but few were noticable gone, most died so i tried wax worms yesterday and she hasnt eaten..

* Current Problem - i dont think she has eaten much, if at all, and today she has been really dark with black spots. she also has been standing very streched out and looks emaciated... what can i do??

Bulb that comes with the slimline fixture is garbage, but the fixture's good. Go out and get a zoomed 5.0 linear.

I'm not familiar with jacksons, but a wild caught specimen should be examined by a vet to check for parasites and pre-existing problems.

To a degree yes. UVA affects behaviour patterns, while UVB is essential for D3 synthesis.

Post some pics and maybe the jackson owners could help you further.

Pictures please..........

Yeah, the you need to replace the tube light in the slimline fixture as stated before. Pictures of the cage and full body shots of your cham from various angles will really help. There are lots of Jackson's experts here (not me) that will be able to look at those pictures and instantly make some conclusions and give you some tips. You have come to the right place. And welcome too :)

I do agree you need a better light. She is always by the light because she is trying to get UVB. They know when they need this. If she was getting the right light she would roam the cage more. Also, you would notice a lot more happy colors out of your girl. You need to get a phosphorus free plain calcium,( use just about every day) Calcium with D3, (Twice a month)and reptivite. (Twice a month)

You should try to keep your humidity around 60 during the day for a jackson. I know they say 50 is ok, but they really do need high humidity with lots of ventilation. I use a humidifier to help with this along with misting. MOST IMPORTANTLY MAKE SURE SHE IS DRINKING.

I really think you will notice a big difference with a new light. I had the slim line lights with reptisun 5.0 BUT HAD THE PLASTIC COVER OVER THE BULB. BAD IDEA. My jackson was not as energetic and was going to bed earlier than normal. I took the covers off an back to normal! I have even notices a LOT more color in him as well.

As for the food, ditch the wax worms not healthy for a cham. I would strongly recommend Silk worms and roaches. Good silk worms at http://coastalsilkworms.com/store/index.php

Any more question you can PM me. I feel i have a good handling on how to take good care of a jacksons.

Getting silk worms or roaches could take a few days. Since your not sure if she has ait in a while they wouldn't hurt her just don't make a habit of it.

When did you get her? if she is new to her environment, could be why she isn't eating. I noticed she is wiled caught. It may take a bit for her to settle in. Try not to be around her much but for water and food.

You did say she has pooped twice, How did her urates look? Just curious on the color. (white/brown)

okay so im going to save for a light and ill try and get a humidifier too, to get the humidity up during the day, i havent noticed her urine...
but i just noticed more poop on a leaf right now..
also im hoping to get roaches too is i can order the,

Look on the forums here for roaches. I bought from Sara270 She was real quick. Just need paypal

No urine would be a concern of mine after a few days. Are her eyes sunken in at all. Also another way to tell if she is dehydrated would be to look at her skin, if it wrinkles and does not unwrinkled real quick on its own she is dehydrated.

I am concerned about her being hydrated because it is sometimes the biggest challenge of owning a jacksons. They need Lots and lots of water and humidity.

Did you take the plastic covers off the slim line? That is a must

yah she is hydrated i think because her skin look good, and i have been able to watch her drink, just not each yet..
i dont know where to look for urine because wen i mists, its just almost all wet..
i think im going to buy a gift cars credit card thing to make a quick paypal . . .
man i really want to do good. and yes i took off the plastic, but i broke it off because it would just come off, hahaha.

For her urates look on the leaves. It should be a white sack. Should be able to notice it even when the cage is wet. Can be quite hard to find at times. And you dont always get it all. That it why it is important to do a deep clean once a month.

Glad to here she is drinking, im sure she will start eating for you. She is wild caught, she might be use to a different variety of foods and is wondering what your putting in front of her to eat:)

As far as doing well signing up for this forums was good step. Now just compile all the info you know, keep gathering info and apply it.

thanks for all your help! im not sure if i found the right thing , but it looks like a dry spot on a few leaves thats white, i cant tell though,

lol, i know i hope things work , i was worried since she was wild, but she was sweet and didnt freak out when i found her,
i was so amazed at the fact i found her.

So how long have you had her now? I would be making as little fast movements around the cage (looking for poo and such) Fast sudden movements realy seem to freak these guys out. Prolly because in the wild that is their defense. Flatten out and shake back and forth. lol

If she is still new to her home i would give her some space. I know it is hard:)

Is she dark green, bright green, combo of both throughout the day? Also, to know if she is real stressed she will show tan or red colors.

The help is no problem, glad i could help. Not many people have jacksons on here and i know nothing realy about panthers or veilds. They seem to be the most popular on here.
