incubator\ pros\ and\ cons?

I just use a chicken incubator. I bought it at a local animal store for $60. I've used it a few times. It's alot cheaper than the reptile name brand ones

Well i guess if your house temp stays pretty stable, the "Closet" method can be a extremely cost effective way. BUT if your looking for a reliable incubator, I have heard NOTHING but good words about Avey precision incubators. They hold temps within 1/10th of a degree, but can be very pricey. I have been doing some poking around about these for a while now, they are commonly used for GTP eggs. Something to keep in mind you can still loose eggs with a 10000 dollar incubator, it just happens sometimes.

Where I am, the nights can get below 55F at night in the winter and I prefer to keep my eggs safe in an incubator 20F higher than that.

If you live in an area that has more stable temperatures, then you can use the closet method.

Benefits: able to induce diapause.

Drawbacks: if you get the wrong kind (Exo Terra) your eggs can cook or freeze.

I use a Hovabator, for about 4ish years and have had no problems...it has been consistent for as long as it has been used.

from my research, pretty much every big name/legit breeder says the same thing "avoid the fridge style zoomed/exoterra incubators" and just use the classic "foam box" style unless you have REALLY big swings in temps/humid

I use hatchrite with my incubator. Ive used it a few times and I never had a problem with humidity. I just wet the hatchrite a little once a"every two weeks and it's fine. Never had a problem
