Incubator question

Yeah, that incubator looks like overkill.
Most people use either pearlite or vermiculite and the preference seems to be coarse vermiculite, though I have been having no problems with the fine vermiculite (which is all Lowe's had).

I've looked at those incubators. They look quite hightech. In all the spec info I could find on these units, I couldn't determine if they are capable of producing a night drop temperature. Night drops are very helpful for some species, especially montanes.

DIY Incubator & Hatchrite

My DIY incubator was really easy to make. My Veiled eggs that were in it hatched out in 6-1/2 months. Check it out here .... (post #55) ... https://www.chameleonforums.com/veiled-chameleon-not-laying-6156/index2.html

( There are pics of the incubator in post #31 on page 1 of the same thread !! )

I've been using vermiculite mixed with sand for the hatching medium however I noticed some hatchrite at the LPS with a fairly hefty price tag. I was just wondering if it would be worth getting some for future hatchings or should I just stick with what I have since it seems to work fine.

Does anybody have any experience with Hatchrite??

Thanks ... Dyesub Dave. :D

I can't personally recommend an incubator, since mine is a DIY bodge job homemade unit.

Most folks would recommend the Hovabator. The one without the fan. Cheap and reliable from what Ive heard.

I also use chunky vermiculite and I mix it 1:1 water / vermiculite by weight. Some other folks swear by perlite. I've never tried it myself.
