Incubator questions

i been reading a ton of reviews on line about incubators, and would rather hear it form someone that has used them for chameleon. what have you used and how did it work? i am looking at the Exo Terra Reptile Incubator,Thermal Hova Bator Incubator picture window(1582R) and Thermal Hova Bator Incubator(1602-N) all for LLL reptiles.

The Exoterra works great BUT don't trust the thermometer on the unit. Mine currently reads 88 degrees F but my internal reading is at 74F. Other than that it's good.

I am using just your average chicken incubator purchased for $43 at a Rural King. It is working wonderfully, and the eggs are growing rapidly!

I am also just using a regular chicken incubator. It didnt cost as much as the name brand reptile ones, but it still gets the job done

Don't get exo-terra, I have one for bearded dragon eggs, I managed to get all 90 in there, after 140+ successful hatchings last year (lost maybe 2), the incubator gave up and now I have 90 eggs (beardies) sitting at about 70°F which is useless The eggs (half) were due to hatch a month ago, they're still not hatching however I can see the baby moving around in the egg.

Other than that, not even a year old and it can't pick up the temp anymore, I'm very pissed as the pet store I deal with wanted 80+ dragons!

Hovabator $50

I am using chicken incubator that I bought for 50 dollars from a farming store and currently have 12 bearded dragon eggs incubating at 84 constant and 66 veiled chameleon in my other incubator with is also a hovabator( with the fan for cooling) at 70-74 and they are all doing great. never had a problem except with the thermometer that came with the hovabators was crap I use exoterra thermometers/hygrometer in both my hovabators. Works perfect IMO

Not to push our own sales - but the same "chicken incubator" you guys bought at the farm supply stores are $39.95 on our website Model 1602 Hovabators - the #1 used incubator in the US for reptiles. Super easy to use.

If you want an "upgraded" one - the Zoo Med ReptiBator has a proportional thermostat. It is the cheapest incubator with proportional capability and works great as well. Good luck with the eggs!

I use the Hovabator - I bought it at LLL in Oceanside - hatched out 76 perfect baby veileds a couple months ago. It's now holding 27 K. multi eggs. I have had no problems with it. Certainly can't beat the price!

Wish I would have known that before buying. I will keep that in mind when I buy my next one. thanks...... I agree though hovabators are the best for the price.I have never had a problem with the hovabators

If its just for panthers or veilds... and your house stays above 62 at night, and not over 78 inside your home at the peak of summer. A cool dark closet,shobox,deli cups, and vermiculite is all thats needed. Here in the northwest incuibators are not used too much. I have hatched out my panthers the last couple years with out useing a incuibator.And hatched out veileds prior to panthers the same way. I did recently bought a exo terra but It is not in use yet. i purchaced it to put eggs in just prior to hatching. So i can move the ones about to hatch out of the cool closet and into the cham room where i can see them. the exo heats and cools. My hatch rate is over 95% I have read the night temp drop helps the hatch rate. As far as time goes the fall chameleon babies hatch in 7-8 month and the spring babies hatch in 8-9 months. Anyway thats the method as it was taught to by a local breeded.
