Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Veiled, male, about 13 months old, and been in our home for 10 months now.
Handling - two times per week
Feeding - about 8 crickets everyday. Every month for one week I get him silkworms and hornworms for extra nutritional value. I gutload the crickets with carrots, dark green lettuce and various veggie scraps. The worms are gutloaded with the chow.
Supplements - ZooMed repti-calcium without D3 every day. Rep-cal herptivite twice per month, and Rep-cal with D3 twice per month.
Watering - 32 oz. dripper all day long plus 2-3 three minute mistings per day. I rarely see him drink.
Fecal Description - Dark fecal with white urate. The tip of the urate can be yellow/orange, but the vast majority it white. He has never been tested for parasites.
History - He had a burn on his spine about 5 months ago. Went to the vet for the burn and was prescribed Meloxicam, Baytril, and Silvadene. He healed well from the burn, but has a slight deformity from where the spines fell off.
Cage Info:
Cage Type - Screen cage, 18x28x24, has plastic siding on 3/6 sides to increase humidity.
Lighting - ReptiGlo 5.0 UVB (replaced in March 2012), heat lamp (40 watt on dimmer). He has 11.5 hours dark and 12.5 hours light.
Temperature - Right now it's at a high of 88.3 F and a low of 71.2 F.
Humidity - The humidity fluctuates between 50% to 60%...digital hygrometer.
Plants - None.
Placement - Living area, relatively low traffic. Not near an airvent. The top of his cage is about 6 feet from the floor.
Location - Maryland
Current Problem - It would seem that Thorium has developed an infection on his spine. It never turned black indicating no bruising or burn marks. It looks like it may be a piece of skin that never shed, and is now causing problems. I have some Meloxicam left over from his previous burn, should I give the recommended dose temporarily to reduce inflammation? I have bacitracin or neosporin I have been putting on the inferred infection after I wash the area with warm water. Obviously I need to bring him to the vet, but I won't be able to until Wednesday of this week. Is there anything I can do in the meantime? Am I right to think that this is an infection?
