Input on new build

Hey all!

You may remember me from my previous posts. I have been working on my new build and just wanted some input from the pros. Tomorrow after work I will start using great stuff and adding sticks which I have baked and sanitized to create a bavking environment. I will also be adding my mist king. Before I start my massive installation just wanted to post some pics and see if anyone sees some glaring flaws.

Not to be a UV snob, but you have like 2ft inbetween the first perch and the uvb bulb. On most setups, the uvb dead zone starts half way from the bottom of the tank, where the top of your plant ends...

But hey, at least we both use the same washer overflow trays

PS: hope the cardboard in the overflow tray is only temporary, its going to mold like crazy.

Haven't setuo any perches yet actually the money tree is just there for scaling etc. Perches will go about 6 inches below top of screen.

It's actually a synthetic substrate in the bottom doesnt mold and works great!

No I have a reptifogger I was just storing it in there.

You may be confusing the money tree with the umbrella tree? Umbrella/schefflera is one of the most recommended

That thread is also from 2011! Proper husbandry when it comes to chameleons is constantly changing, what was considered ok 8 years ago could have changed 10 times by now. I'm no plant specialist by any means, I just know I've never seen a money tree on any cham friendly list. Trust me, I've looked. I have a huge one that I would love to use for my boy

Your sources are not doing you any favors. Money trees are extremely flimsy and the weight of a chameleon will break its branches. They are not one of the common or most suggested plants at all. You should be thinking about pothos, schefflera, and ficus. Money trees are cute, but not for arboreal reptiles.

Hmm I put my previous veiled on it all the time he was 1ft long and never broke a single branch?

There are "a lot" of "money trees". Some are toxic, some are fine. "Technically" Pothos and Schefflera are "toxic", but not to chameleons, infact they have been munching on them for decades

Yeah gonna put a tray on that plywood piece drill thru and add a drip hose with a bucket under in addition to the washer substrate tray at the very bottom so 2 layers of drainage.

Beautiful cage!!! Also I have a money tree in my veileds enclosure and she doesn't really climb on it, I think it is in fact too flimsy for them to climb on, but she definitely does enjoy eating the leaves! Just with that being said I wouldn’t have that as the only plant in the cage for your baby to climb on
