Interesting idea for an incredible enclosure

There are a ton of labs liquidating equipment this time of year.
Has anyone considered modding one of these sterilization animal enclosures for a reptile?
They are not all on the thousands, many are under $500 and have all sorts of crazy features like integrated outlets, sterilizing bulbs, airflow built in, automatic humidity and temperature control, and air purification.

Here's an example:

Opened the link provided and have to ask have you ever been in a chemistry laboratory? That looks more like a fume hood to me. If that's the case, it's airflow ventilation would be too high then. They're designed to suck away any bad fumes or volatile substances away from the work area.

It could work though but found the model of the thing in the link, this is what it is designed for doing:

Yes I know my way around a lab, all those parameters can be adjusted. It does have a fume hood, but it comes off and it would be great for airfloe- filtered to the micron level i might add

Did not know they had adjustable airflow, all the ones I had had three to four fan settings, from high to off lol. There is a similar thing used in biological sciences laboratories that might be more ideal. I know at the University of Calgary, in their biological sciences laboratory they have these booths for growing plants under specific conditions same thing essentially, just designed to hold up to water and humidity better.

Good day, looks technical with superior aeration. I used a portable green house with mesh instead of plastic, that made for a pretty lovely enclosure.

Even if it didn't come standard with dial controlled airflow, the motor is set up to do variable speeds so it would be a %5 pary

Learned something new, definitely think it would work, just not sure how well they hold up against humidity and moisture though, but I would think that they would be fine with it.

I’m in and out of industrial medical grade labs a few times a week. They have built in water/drainage lines, variable induction feeds, and several customizable pre-installs circuits you could use to power any number of accessories. No doubt this could work but I’m having trouble justifying the why part...

But I do like the way your thinking, seeing the potential of it.

Yeah bro! Exactly right. I have not had an escapee in like 6 months (knock on wood- preferably grapevine lol).

These things are tanks, there is no way our little hobby stuff would challenge it.

Plus the PRICE is better than most pet industry enclosures!

It has endless possibilties for all sorts of things. Breeders especially could dial in exact parameters and the thing is by nature designed to be sterile.

I think the big problem here is that it's just not anywhere near tall enough for any chameleon outside the smallest species

It might have potential for raising hatchlings considering the size of the "bubble" but I'm still going to stick to exo terra's for that.
Interesting find.

Have you considered the freight cost? Especially for someone in New Jersey like yourself, your not going to budge ours without a forklift, assuming the same for those.

Yes, I thought of posting here precisely because of that- you have to be local to make this work.

ALSO- these labs in my experience will go much MUCH lower than the stated price, once they want a piece of equipment out, are moving, lose a govt. contract, or are closing they practically pay you to take it.

I once got a Nikon SMX-2T stereomicroscope- trinocular- WITH a fiber optic light source AND all the video cameras for $500. That's an $8500 setup.

Had me singing that stupid song all day the day I got THAT deal:

(Ooh, Ooh-Ooh, Ooh)
This is gonna be the best day of my life
(Ooh, Ooh-Ooh, Ooh) My li-i-i-i-i-i-ife)
