Interesting Problem.

Woke up this morning and looked at my girlfriends panther chameleon, managed to catch him in the middle of pooping, it looked like it was hanging mid free fall, I got closer. It looks like the chameleon found a piece of hair and ate it. Now theres a hair sticking out of his butt about 3-4 inches long. I gently tugged on it and it didnt budge.

So suggestions? It doesnt seem to be bothering him hes eating and drinking fine. Should I wait to see if he passes more of it out tomorrow when he poops?

hmm that is a wierd problem. i would definatly not pull it out iff it seems stuck. ( could maybe cause a prolaps??? ) if it is stuck and there is a long pc hanging out i might consider trimming it shorter say 1 inch so as it does not get caught on something but still enough for him to try and rub it off or for you or a vet to have to work with if he canoot pass it on his own.
these are just ideas, there are a few members with veternary experience maybe they will chime in. best of luck keep us posted

If it didn't easily pull out, I would not tug on it anymore. If it is caught up in the intestines you could cause a lot of damage. You can see if it passes on its own, but I might consider a vet visit or at least call an experiences herp vet to see what they recommend. I know my guy only poops every couple days so it could be in there awhile. I know with dogs and cats a string caught up badly can cause all kinds of issues, usually they pass with no problems but I would be cautious. Good luck!

Any change you could post a picture of it? We love strange problems. But is we could see it, it would be a lot easier to offer some ideas.

I agree with Laurie. Pictures would help A LOT. For all we know it could be something else other than a hair.

Taken a few pictures and you cant see it in any of them. It is definately a hair though. You can see the root at the end of it. He poops every day between 9-930, hes always been regular like that. I left a message for the vet to call me back.

I have to agree with what was said...do not pull it out...you could damage its intestines...and believe me, it can kill the chameleon if you do that. Cutting it off was also a good idea.

Congratulations! Glad it passed and no further assistance was needed, gotta love the way the body works :)

thats perfect, wierd prob, solved.. nice that you have a panther that eat its bran and is good and regular LOL.
happy for you and him
