Interesting question ?

For the past couple of days now, i have been reading people's post's and seeing some of them saying that there chameleon is acting very aggressive. Some days when they walk by or past them or even if they try to pick them up they get all fussy could it possibly be the fast movement's past them or close to them since imo im not 100% positive about this but it would be there natural instinct to puff up to make them selves look larger as if we are a predator ? It would be awesome if someone can answer this for me =)

my ambanja is like that fast movments and he goes apeshit but if i slowly put my hand in his enclosure and hes all fine and dandy

Yes, they puff up to make themselves larger to intimidate predators. This is also why they turn very bright colors. They want to scare predators off.

I'd venture to say that most, if not all chameleons don't like "fast movement" when it happens close to them. Most of their "reactions" are simply a defensive behavior to feeling threatened.

I'm one of the people that has posted recently about my chameleon acting very aggressively towards me. I had him out today and our Grandaughter held him while I cleaned the bottom of his cage. He has always been fine, once you get him outside of his enclosure.

He sure puts on a good "bluff" while in his home though. He really acted like he wanted to bite me..........but he didn't. I'm just gonna keep working with him at least once a day and eventually I think he'll draw the conclusion that I mean him no harm.

I try very hard to put myself in "their" position..............and their reactions to something so much larger than himself being taken from where he feels secure, has to be stressful to them. I guess the other day he was just in one of those "Don't MESS with ME"........moods.

with most reptiles it is good to handle a very short time every 2 days or so untill it well realize you dont ever hurt it. some species like beardeds well be alot easier, some like chams well be harder. but the process well somtime take a couple months. I had a blue toungue skink that took 2 months to tame. It also helps to buy a large fake leave tree, from walmart or whatever kind of superstore is in your area, when you must clean the cage and have him out for a long stressfull time, let em venture around the big fun tree. i do it with all my arboreal reptiles during cleaning. my waterdragon love it. geckos may run away though but the cham wont be going to far too soon lol.

I must have gotten pretty lucky. My cham has only puffed up at me once when I first got him. He also seems to like to be handled, he will quickly grab on sometimes when I am not trying to get him too. On a similiar note, today we were working on the sink near his home and the vibrations must not have been his favorite as I watched him puff up really big. It was quite a site.
