Introducing Artemis my first veiled chameleon

I got her at the local Repticon on 8/24/14. I did not even intend to get another reptile any time soon. I just saw a vendor had a bunch of baby veiled chameleons and they were allowing everybody to pick them up. I did not even bother to see how much they were since I was not in the market for one. Right when Repticon was closing I went and took a look at them as saw they were $25.00 each. One of the reasons I got one is because they did not look like the vender was taking good care of them. I know that is not the best reason to buy an animal but I always wanted a chameleon. I have been taking care of green anoles for 3 years so I knew I would be able to care for this chameleon since they have similar requirements.
I picked the one that looked the healthiest because some looked very dehydrated. I was not expecting this chameleon to last that long because to me it seems that it was too young to be selling. My vet even told me not to be surprised if it did not make it. I was able to get her to eat some fruit flies and drink some water the first night I got her home so that was a good sign. After a week I named her Artemis after the Greek goddess of hunting, wilderness and wild animals and she carried a bow & arrows. I thought it was appropriate since my chameleon is a good shot. It has been about 2 ½ weeks since I got her and she is doing well in her 16 X 16 X 20 inch reptibrezz cage.

The first time I took Artemis outside she was not happy until I gave her some flies to eat. I filmed her eating one and she fell backwards:eek:. It was sad but funny at the same time. So I made a Gif out of it.:D

I thought I put this thread in the Lizard Lounge but I guess it still fits in Gen Photogralphy.

Welcome to the forums. This is a great place to learn about chameleons. I keep veileds and they are awesome chameleons. The little girls are so sweet. Artemis is adorable. Thank you for sharing her story with us. I have a coup,e of blogs and a video attached below to help you keep her healthy and happy. I also have a couple egg laying and laying bin blogs. The girls do lay eggs without a male even being around and I recommend keeping a laying bin in her enclosure at all time after 5 months old. They will become egg bound if they don't have a place to lay their eggs.

Keep up update with pictures of her.

Thanks for the chameleon care links.

Here is a video of Artemis hissing at the camera. I did not know she made any noisy until I played back the video. She is so cute and grumpy.

Artemis is showing me her little foot.

Need help with her age.

I was wondering if someone could help me figure out her approximate age. Here is a photo from the I got her on Aug. 24 2014. I am assuming she is under a month since she is so small.

I laughed so hard at that gif oh my god haha.

She's so cute! She's a little bigger than my little veiled, Georgie :)
