Is a modified corner display case ok?

Hi,

I am very new to chameleon and I apologize if sound ridiculous (I'd rather ask questions before than killing an innocent dude). I am an avid African cichlid keeper and paludarium owner so I'm somewhat disciplined with having demanding creatures.
Here is my crazy question: can I, and what species, keep a chameleon in a modified 20x20x5ft corner display case (the typical piece of furniture type of display case)? I would fill it with real plants and somewhat of a waterfall for high humidity.
Please speak your minds.
Thanks
Tim

I don't recommend a waterfall its a breeding ground for bacteria and the cage should be able to keep a panther. May I ask if the cage is screen?

works perfectly

drop the idea about a waterfall, more trouble than its worth.
If youre new to chams, you'll probably have your hands full w/ just the husbandry side of things...but a modified display case works just fine if all your bases are covered

The display case has a glass door right now but I'm thinking of modifying it. I don't know if I will screen it.
A panther would fit in there? These guys get fairly big no? It's a triangular display case...

Your height is good for pretty much any species (with the exception of maybe parsons and mellers), but I would hesitate to put one of the larger species (including panthers and veiled) in there based on the 20" depth unless it was a female as they are considerably smaller than the males. You could definitely house a male of a smaller species with no problems. I would keep the glass front personally, but you definitely want to screen in two of the sides and the top IMHO.

All that being said, I suggest you do a lot more research on the care requirements of chameleons in general and also the various species available as their care requirements vary by species, including temperature and humidity. Start here: https://www.chameleonforums.com/care/chameleons/. There is general chameleon information as well as species specific information on the links on the left of the page. Pick the chameleon you like the best and go from there. No point buying a chameleon that "fits" your chosen enclosure, only to find there is another species you like better. Good luck. You've come to the right place for information and questions.

Yes that would be adequate, unless you are housing a larger chameleon, in which case I'd want more width or depth. Just make sure the environment you create inside the unit will be adequate for water (no waterfall), ventilation, temperature, lighting and humidity.
You may end up drilling a few discreet holes in the lower part of the sides, to help create an air exchange chimney effect (from the heat lamps pulling warm air up and fresh cooler air pulled in through the holes)
