Is an orange tree ok?

Hey phoenix. I cant help you there but I am also wondering what other larger trees would be suitable for a cham.

i would seriously doubt citrus would be okay but thats just a guess

but along the guidelines of resinous and pungent plants being harmful to chams i'd have to say an orange tree is probably among the top of that list with those lil white flowers and intense aromas, please correct me if i'm wrong

I was really hoping it would be. I was thinking of getting a dwarf orange tree myself. For tortoises it said it was ok in another website, but I guess the conditions are not the same for chameleons. The dwarf orange trees would have benefited all 3 party members: the cham, the feeders and me. Oh well.

Veileds do have a couple of different types of orange trees that are native to thier area. I know of some people that have lime trees in their enclosures with no ill effects.

Them ingesting a small orange fruit could be a little bit of worry. I really have a hard time seeing a chameleon eating one whole. Most likely they would just spit it out, assuming they go for it in the first place.

If you can keep it alive I say go for it.

as far as i know, it's okay.
I would be worried if you have one of those kumquat orange (the fruit is slightly bigger than a grape).
He might decided to swallow those and get an impaction in process.
As far as eating orange, I gave my crickets orange slice and gave the gutloaded crickets to my cham and so far so good.

I'm guessing that if your cham decided to eat oranges, it would be fine (quite doubtful. he probably spit it out since the skin is bitter)

i would avoid eating fruits from the tree used in my chameleon's cage for health reason :D
You never know if your cham has a parasite and have been pooping all over the tree. :)

cricket taste like peanut.
and they say scorpions and tarantulas taste like crabs.
never try them myself, but my home country is one of the nations that practice eating insects.
:)

Oh I wasn't going to eat the oranges I was going to give it to the crickets/feeders to gut load so I don't have to buy oranges from the store all the time. They also smell nice so it can mask any ill odors that might be. I'm not really an orange type guy.

Dwarf Orange Tree.

Phoenixnr, I have two Dwarf Orange Trees in one of my outside enclosures and my panthers have no ill effects from them. If you have them outside, the blossoms they will draw bees. So insecticides might be an issue in your area, check on that, as my panthers have been known to snag a bee on occasion (and no, I have not seen any ill effect from the bee eating). The trees cannot take cold for very long. Keep them in the big planters with wheels attached, as it is a bear to try and carry these guys into the garage when the cold weather is coming. You can try to cover the tree, but that can be iffy. When it is warm, water them often. You will most likely do that anyway for your chams.
