The polka dots he is displaying usually means he is nervous. Maybe he was thinking about exploring outside the cage. Mine always looks that same way when he is about to go out of the cage.
That is an awesome cage though, so I doubt he is unhappy, just nervous about exploring.

he was thinking about leaving a while ago. could it be possible he's scared of the dripper? he doesn't drink a whole lot but enough..thanks for the compliment! also I just added the plant a few days ago so maybe that's why?

Lol thats funny with the drop of water! It could be a few things but those dots usually a sign of stress or uneasiness. My guy did it at first when he was getting used to making the long journey from his cage out on to a vine and to his free-range set up. The branch that takes him to the playground is about thirty inches long and i think he was nervous because he was on the limb and exposed in between the cage and free range plants. He didn't have any cover on the limb and basically had nowhere to go in case of danger while he was on his way. This is what I summed it up for, but after a few trips he lost the dots and just cruised through. Lol i guess what im trying to say is that yes he does look a stressed. He may want some more plants up towards the top maybe, or maybe that new plant is still got him uneasy since he is not used to it. In that case its expected and should get used to it rather quickly. Sometimes you have to make adjustments until he finds his comfort zone, More plants, less plants, plants up higher, plants down lower, or even different plants can be tried. I also noticed that red bulb is that what you use for his basking lamp or do u have that, plus the uvb tube plus another basking lamp? If so he may be a little warm, but i dont want to insult you by assuming you dont know your temps, but just a thought?

ok so he actually did try to leave when I had the door open one time...he was on the door so I went over to help him out. he didn't like that and started to move back into the cage so I just left him alone.
About 30 seconds later he fell from just above the bottom door.
So could there be another reason he wants to leave? does he just want to get out? because it seems like he try's to anytime I have the door open

The cage needs much work..you need some horizontal branches for him to relax on with vines connecting them so he can travel from one to another. And try using a regular light bulb either 65 or 75 watt for his basking spot with a branch below it for him to bask on. The spot should be around 90 to 95 degrees. Dowel rod works good for these horizontal hang out spots, it comes in all different thicknesses and can be cut to length and held in place using thumb tacks pushed into them from the outside of the screen. They should be placed at different levels through out the cage. A Cham that wants out of his cage is a sign that he does not have the proper set up.

Meh... I wouldn't worry dude. I have had chameleons go a couple of hours all pissed and mad at nothing. Veiled chams are especially grumpy sons of guns. Your cham looks mad at something, maybe he saw a shadow that got him upset. I laugh when chams sit there all happy and green, then out of nowhere, they get all puffed and ticked because a gnat flies by. If you are worried, check on your set-up. If all seems ok, then just wait for him to calm down in a couple of hours.

I'd take one of the above posters' suggestions above and create some more horizontal "highways" for him.. Also, where's his basking spot? It looks like the area he's at in the pic is kinda far from the top and I don't see any thermometers? I'd also recommend a live plant like an umbrella plant if the one you have in there is fake (sorry I can't tell). Also, when you said he fell, has he done that more than once? If so, there may be a problem.. My guy has never fell (cross fingers)..
For the highways you can create for him, I went to Michaels and they sell smooth wooden rods that you can cut to run across the width of the cage.. I did this and created like 4 extra highways for my guy, and just used push-pins to get them to to stay attached to the cage.. I made some horizontal, diagonal, etc.. The more the better IMO.
anyway, hope your guy is in a better mood
