I bought a 1 gal. bottle of purified water for baby which contains sodium fluoride and calcium just for the bottle to make a feeding cup for my chameleon, but then considered it could be a good idea for him to drink it?? what do you think?? could it have some negative effects if he drinks it or if i sprinkle it to his cage??

Are you talking about that electrolyte water, pedialite? is it the clear or grape, orange flavor? Why cant chams benifit from electrolytes?

it regular clear water, im just paranoic it could have side effects on my cham, it contains minerals like potasium bicarbonate, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, and sodium fluoride..

No, they are talking about the jugs of water sold for making baby formula.
IMO flouride isnt good for anyone, their baby, or your chameleon.;)

Ok, so my grammer isnt perfect:p I was just responding to javsto.
Google flouride and you will find lots of info on it. Not a subject Im going to bring up here;):p

Who in their right mind gives their baby water with sodium fluoride? I hope you are joking. Fluoride has long been proven to do NOTHING for the health of bones or teeth when ingested....it is only effective when applied topically (as in, the cream they put on your teeth at the dentist...then TAKEN OFF).

Sodium fluoride is listed as a toxic substance, and it is an INORGANIC material (it is man-made, not natural).

If you aren't joking, then it sounds like you need to be 'paranoic' about a lot more than your chameleon...

Most people will comment on the sodium fluoride...however even the Calcium Chloride is bad. Sure it has the word 'calcium' in it and most people's thinking STOPS there...

Honestly that baby water sounds like a bunch of chemical corporations got together and put their waste products into the formula just to get them out of the industrial yards.

Crazy.

YES! THIS Is the one!!

as i said.. in the ingredients it says that it is purified by distilation, filtered, and ozonized. it contains purified water, potasium bicarbonate, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, sodium fluoride added for flavor. contains up to .7 mg/l of added fluoride. the quantities of the minerals are not significant to nutritional level.

I'm sort of surprised they sell that product. I thought everyone knew you shouldn't give fluoride to babies or dogs. They sell special toothpastes for both that have no fluoride in them

Gerber makes a purified water that's fine.

I only mention it because it periodically goes on sale and gets cheaper than the store brand "distilled" water, so it's worth knowing. All the bottles I take to get filled with RO water are "Gerber Baby Water".

This water sounds like you should either dump it down the sink, pour it on the grass in your backyard, or boil it for a half an hour to sterilize it! Wow.

Is everyone that particular about the tap water they give their chameleons? I personally use bottled water, but I bet many of us use tap water. Is tap water safe to use? I know I am opening up a can o worms...

To be honest I am more particular of the water I use for my chameleons then I am for myself.

Boiling won't take the fluoride out, at least, I don't think it will...you'd need to distill it.

I'd use it on the plants (not in the cage) and for the adults to drink....

The guinea pigs and the chameleons get the most attention when it comes to diet at my house....

Like just about everything, it's good and bad depending on quantity to body mass. I'm pretty big, I can take some fluoride in my water and it's good for my teeth. The same is true of children over 3, they should get some fluoride daily.

I think one reason it seems so wrong now is that people drink so much more water than they did when the fluoridation debates happened. I don't remember drinking much water as a child (in the 60s) but my daughter always has a water bottle with her and drinks it all day.

I suspect it's time to re-evaluate the "fluoride in city water" thing....but that's probably a discussion for another board.

For this board: no fluoride for your chameleons! They don't process it well at all. If your city water is fluoridated, buy something that isn't or filter the tap water to remove it (RO or distillation).

yeah i love how pediatricians try to give you fluoride/vitamin drops for babies.

its funny because the week or so before we took my son to that appointment where they tried to push their poison on him. i had read about how populations drinking public water with flouride in it had lower IQs in a scientific american article, as well as other miscellaneous concerns. so of course we want to give concentrated drops to infants /facepalm

then my mom is like "YOU HAVE TO GIVE HIM THOSE DROPS! i fed them to you all the time" /smiles. if only she hadnt smoked with me while she was pregnant, and fed me retardation drops id probably rule the world by now.

i also used to lick mercury... but i think thats why i can see the future...
