Is it safe to use these branches?

So as many of you probably have heard, the UK (more so the south than the north) is undergoing a storm (well, it's a storm for us aha) & where I live there's several really tall trees right at the bottom of my garden & this morning I woke up to find a lovely big branch had broken off in the wind & landed on the washing line (obviously knows I want to dry it out & use it! :p) and a few smaller branches too.

So my question is, is it safe to use these branches in my chams viv? If so, is there anything I can do to prepare them before putting them in?

I'm not completely sure what the trees are, I think they're oak & birch. But when it calms down outside I'll take a picture of the branches and the trees they came from if that'll help with identifying whether they're safe or not :)

There are many different opinions and threads on this subject if you do a quick search. But what has worked for me is to remove any excess bark. Sanitize the branches in soapy water (i use simple green and an old toothbrush). Then I will bake the branches at 300 degrees for about 20 mins to kill any little critters that could be living nside. This is only my method and opinion, i know there are countless others. The only thing i would avoid is anything that has alot of sap, as it can become annoying, and your chams do not enjoy sticky feet. =]

hope this helps

Okay thanks :) I'll let other people tell me what they do too so I've got some more options, but I may go for your method :)
