Is there a need?

Ok some people on here use them and some people dont. Im not looking to start a fight just get a reasonably awnser. Is it nessacary for a uvb and basking or use a mercury vapor?

Like what does anyone think of putting one of these on top of a 2x2x4 enclosure? Would it get to hot?

i use them on all of my cages.

I use the UVB linear tube and a basking light. Mercury vapors work, but I've heard you have to have them the correct distance from the cage(Whatever that is) or they can be harmful.

I cant comment on mercury vapours because ive never used one, but i do use the tried , tested and true combo of linear flourescent UVB and incandescent basking lights. They work well and I don't see a need to attempt to improve on that solution.

I have seen debated, the issue of combining basking heat and UVB light in one single source. At particular issue is the arguement that by providing both together , the cham is not afforded the choice to seek heat alone or UVB alone. Clearly, food for thought ...
