Is this a problem? - Jackson's neonate

10-day old Jackson's - exhibiting gaping, and some foam on mouth. Making some odd movements. Largest of the clutch. Feeds, drinks, alert, some aggression. Torso and head seem disproportionately larger than tail. Cause for concern?

And now it is asleep... I feel like a new mother myself...so paranoid that I will lose one of these guys...

Great, I think that I just figured it out... this one must have a respiratory infection... now what do I do? Any Jackson's owners in NYC?

Can you take picures...for a 10 day old probably doesn't have a URI...consensus is that it is TOO HOT...mountain species prefer it cooler. Post a pic of the foam to rule out URI.

There is no more foam. I only saw it briefly. But the swollen body, as if distended with air, is a textbook symptom. And I have been probably misting them too much. And I would imagine that the fruit flies are not fortified sufficiently. It is hard to enrich fruit flies, and all of the local places are out of pinheads. At least, some of Nature Zone Total Bites melted into the water that the neonates are drinking, they should get some vitamins that way.

I have isolated the neonate, and increased the of raised the temperature of his container. The books say that for Jackson's with respiratory infection, they should 85F round-the-clock, even before you take to vet. And I will make sure that all his food items are liberally ReptoLife'd. Since he is quite hydrated, I am going to leave his container dry for tonight, and try to make sure that he gets extra basking.

I do not know if I can afford a vet. Also, not impressed with the chameleon savvy of any vets that I have encountered thus far. Neonates get antibiotics orally, no injection... can anybody local help me? Specific recommendations?

I do not know where you are located, but if you are up you can call me (PMed you), pm me, or email me at [email protected] The book seems to be an older book. It is very difficult for a 10 day old to have a URI. Do not get him hot, he is gasping because he is too hot.

you need to get all of the babies out of the aquariums and into mesh cages. they require heavy misting and keeping the air stagnent in the plastic/glass cages will cause URI.

i would be careful about turning up the heat on that ill baby. if you can't find crix in a local shop it is imperative that you order crix on line and have them airshipped immediately. they can't go w/out eating, as babies, and they have already had a rough start. big apple pet supply should be near you - or order from luck lure here in fl.

pm me if you need - i'm home all day

Looking for crickets, but I can not find pinheads anyplace around here... they have been getting plenty of flies, though...

The container is perhaps not as bad as an aquarium - it does have some ventilation, but not like mesh... nevertheless... apparently I was doing everything that I could have done to give them a respiratory infection... I was so worried about dehydration, never considered the opposite problem.

And, it seems that you may have been right about the heat, despite what my books said... 5 hours later, the baby seems dead, not sure if i killed him with heat or not. (It was not THAT hot...) The books said keep sick Jackson's at 85F round-the-clock until I can get to a vet.)

So, it is back to PetCo today, to get some better supplies... *sigh*

see if you can find 1/4 in crix - i know - it is hard.

my babies started on the 1/4 inch - i promise that they won't be too big for yours. and they have more to them than the little flies.
