That looks like a locust hopper. I know locusts are safe but not sure if it's the same thing!

im no expert but wouldnt it matter what that guy was eating? if he was eating a poison plant that may harm yur guy?

Yes that is always a concern, Often what they eat is whatt determins wether they are safe or not. Many bugs often eat a particular item that can be the deciding factor, ( such as wild hornworms ) also pesticide use can be an issue. I live in a area in the country where there wouldnt be much pesticide use, and I also keep the bugs in a cup for 12 - 24 hrs and feed them a decent gutload to help ensure they have not eaten or been sprayed by pesticides, as they most often die within that ammount of time if so.

We need a complete identification area on this forum or feederforums so we can identify grass hoppers with ease. I also live in the country and we have thousands of hoppers everywhere. I currently have a green hopper with a black line that runs from behindhis eye down his entire body and on both sides of the black is yellow lines.. His eyes are red..
