Is this chameleon happy or upset?

This morning I took my chameleon (suspected to be gracilis) to the vet (Paul Levitas) and when I got home, his new screen cage had arrived. I put my chameleon on his dwarf umbrella & ficus (about 5 feet away from me) and put his new cage together.

After assembling it completely, I put him outside because it's 82 and 70% humidity today. I misted his cage & plants and I left him for an hour or so. When I went to check on him he was on the screen and he was VERY dark with stripes.

Normally, he looks like this:

I'm not sure if he's happy or terrified. Is anyone familiar? I would tend to think that black is bad...

im no expert but im pretty sure he is not use to his new cage yet, every time i put my veiled in a seperate cage to do some modifications on his cage he turns a dark color and just stays still with in hand of the branch.
i sometimes also see that when he takes a poop he turns a dark color, im not sure if that is normal but i have seen my cham do that.

I think hes just stressed just try to give him some time once he explores his place and gets more used to it.

Looks like a Young Chameleon who isn't quite sure about whats going on OR is Exploring the habitat. I wouldn't worry too too much.:) My female Veil used to display that same exact pattern when she was excited and exploring!

I wouldn't worry because the last time she showed that color, was when she was excited and unsure over getting to live in a huge enclosure. Now she's back to normal duller coloration.

This is a similar pattern to the day i was referring to, but i had no camera available that day.

The darker shade to yours would seem to me as if the cham is just being very wary about its surroundings and isn't sure what to think.

He has been through a lot of changes today... vet... new cage.... I think he is just a bit stressed and needs time to adjust to his new surroundings.
