Is this enough uv/heat light for my veiled?

I have 2 5.0 swirl bulbs on top but they don't penetrate to the bottom of the cage. So I just got a 18 florescent UV light to put in the middle. Then for my heat lamp its a 7.0 on top of the cage. Should I get another for the middle too? My cage is 4 feet tall.

You should do a search on compact bulbs you will find the general idea is they are bad news. Your 18"should be enough what strength is it.

That is overkill.

If you just got the two CFLs then return them (the screw in style) and use a linear UVB lamp. I would use a Zoo Med 5.0. If you are concerned about needing more light buy a 'grow light' from Home Depot. It will help your plants grow and provide lots of light.

You don't need light to reach the bottom of your cage. What is your cage made of? plastic mesh or metal screen?

the 18in is a 5.0 and the cage is made of aluminum mesh.

just use that so long as it isnt realy old. they will bask at the uv so long as you have it within 8-10 inches of a perch your ok

There should be a variance of heat in the cage.

The bottom should be a cool retreat, while a corner in the top is where the chameleon can go to bask. So usually another light is not necessary, if anything giving the chameleon less variance to thermoregulate with.

Heat lamps dont come in 7.0, that is a single digit number, the are usually described as wattage. What is the wattage?

What kind of chameleon is it?
How are you taking temperatures? What kind of thermometer?

I just have a normal thermometer. Nothing fancy. In the basking light its about 85. And sorry about the 7.o its a 75 watt bulb. And the bottom of the cage is about 75. I was also wondering if I just use the tube uv lights do I need on or two?

One UVB lamp (the 5.0) and one heat lamp (normal household lamp). 75w seems a bit high for summer time. You should try to get one of those infrared temp guns to take a temp reading of your chameleon while he/she basks. I think you are looking for a body temp of about 100. Like Chris said, you wanna give the cham a chance to cool off by going lower into the cage... so you need to keep the rest of the cage in the mid 70's maybe even lower 70's if you can.

What kind of chameleon is this? The advice I have is assuming you have a veiled or panther.
