- Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care? Ambilobe panther, male, around 13 months, I got him last night from a couple who no longer had the time. He was captive bred.
- Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon? I handled him last night when placing him in his box for transport- but I believe his past home owners handled him more.
- Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders? From what they did, I feed him around 8 crickets a day, a variety of worms once or twice a week. Right now using super worms. Gut loading with flukers orange cube complete cricket diet.
- Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule? From what they did, I dust with Zoo Med Repticalcium without D3 regularly, but once or twice a week using Zoo Med Reptivite Reptile Vitamins with D3
- Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking? I have been misting today very frequently to keep the humidity levels up, about once every hour or two for a minute and a half to two minutes. It’s quite exessive but the humidity levels go down easily right now. I saw him drinking a lot the moment I put the Big Dripper in and I believe I saw him drinking from a leaf not too long ago.
- Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? From what ive seen, considering it landed in a bit of water in the bottom of the enclosure, the poop is brown but the urate is part white part like an orangish colour? Which I know isn’t the best and it’s just the one I’ve seen one so far.
- History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you. They said he’s always been a healthy happy cham so I’m not sure if this is just because of the move and its temporary or whats going on.
Cage Info:
- Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are thedimensions? Reptibreeze XL screen cage 24inchx24x48
- Lighting - What brand, model, and typesof lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule? He has it set to 9:30am on and 9pm off I believe, which I might change because he is next to a window and the sun comes up much earlier than 9:30. He said he uses a 70watt bulb in the summer and 100w in the winter.
- Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do youmeasure these temps? Basking spot is 84°F and cage floor is 76°F. Overnight I’m not sure yet because last night was an off night of getting everything on and working properly, so he did not get a proper nights rest.
- Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity? Humidity fluncuates between 50-65 right now it depends on when I last misted the cage. I mist often and I use a zoo med humidity thermometer in the cage.
- Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind? As I am, I’ve completely forgot the name of the plants he’s using, but there are two live plants in the enclosure, I’ve just asked what type they are. There are also many fake vines and leaves.
- Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor? My cage is on the floor of my room. There is a heater going on as it is very cold here in Ontario right now, about a meter and a bit away from the enclosure.
- Location - Where are you geographically located? Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.
I’m concerned on whether or not these are normal things and normal behaviour. He seems to do strange things with one of his eyes and I’ve even seen him rubbing his other eye on some vines. The eye that he rubs, I’ve seen the fake leaves just poke him right on there a few times. He also loves to stare at the wall and even sometimes desperately try to grab at the screen but he cannot seem to hold on. He’s tried grabbing on the enclosure several times but cant hold on well enough. He’s also gone up to his dripper where he will rub his front feet up at it or just stare up at it for around 1-2 minutes. He has drank from his dripper before so he knows that is an option. He has also made little noises that sound close to one of a sneeze? I’m not sure if chameleons sneeze but he also seems to be yawning if they do that. I put crickets and a superworm in his enclosure at around 8:30-9 this morning and it took him a while but he ate the worm, and hunted for some crickets, but from what I have seen- when he gets close he seems to give up and just sit there or go claw at the cage? He doesnt seem extremely interested in eating right now, even though all I’ve seen him eat is the one worm. He’s also been seen climbing as high as he can and clawing at the UVB light on the top of his enclosure. All in all, I’m not sure if this is because he’s tired or exhausted from the trip and the move. I’ve said a lot but I’m very concerned for this little guy as I want him to be happy and healthy. I will post photos of his enclosure and a link to videos of him grabbing the cage and videos of his eyes. I could just be completely paranoid as this is my first chameleon but I appreciate any feedback!!!
