Is it normal for my sambava to go about his day doin his usual routine and usually head to his resting spot about 4-5 in the evening, which is about 4-5 hours before his lights go off? He doesn't go to sleep, he just heads down to chill there after he's done his basking, eating, handling, etc., I just didn't know if it was normal since there's still several hours of daylight left for him.. Not to mention, he's getting kinda fat lol and I'm wanting him to exercise a little more  .... he's a lazy ass :p ... seriously though...

How many hours of the day do you have the lights on. Is he near any windows? Do the lights come on after the sun has risen? If he can see the sun rise, and the lights are on after dark, he will base his day's schedule on the lights outside.

As Summoner said, sometimes they adjust their schedule to what they see outside, rather than the lights in their cage. Often in winter the chameleons in the stores "go to bed" earlier in the day than the lights get shut off. The stores are well lit, but they definitely get a big help from light outside and when it gets dark early, many of the chameleons go to bed early too!

Lights are on 12 hours a day. He is by a window so that does make sense, considering his lights come on at 9 am.. maybe I should move it up to 7am. Thanks for the thoughts.

Temps also play a roll in this. As temps were cooling off and days were getting shorter outside, my bearded dragon started to try and burrow. We provided a hide for her and she began brumating. She hid out in her cave for three months!! We took her to my GF's classroom as a class pet. In the last couple of weeks shes finally come out of her hide. She is by a window, so I think the longer days triggered her to come out even though they aren't THAT much longer...

Yes, follow your lighting outside if he can see the light from the sun. save 12 hour days for summer :D Give him maybe 10 right now.

i have my lights set up to mimic outside..(also they bask in the screen window for most of the day) however, on cooler days ive noticed they are not as active, and on hotter days tend to travel around a lil more..

My male Veiled will often going to his normal sleeping spot an hour or two before bed time. Guess he knows the lights will be out soon and he wants to get in a comfy spot :D
