is this okay?

it is normal. hornworms have a hell of a grip with their pads. i've seen my cham litteraly shoot for a hornworm then get pulled almost completely off the branch, it is normal, but i dont see it being healthy

Why don't you try handfeeding them to him or putting them is a shallow plastic feeding cup that they cannot grip onto. I don't like the idea of his tongue getting pulled like that! When I feed my chameleon from a cup i usually hold it up to him and make sure the worms are close to the end because one time he shot to the bottom and his tongue stuck on the bottom of the cup and it freaked me out. I would not want to take a chance of him injuring his tongue or worse ripping possibly ripping it out.

I know hornworks are are good for them but I try to be careful on letting my chams work to hard. I don't want tongue issues.

I had a hornworm do this 2 weeks ago. Scared the crap out of me but Samson just reeled his tongue in. Luckily it was the last one. I also doubt i will be free ranging them because I dont want this to be a problem

In fear!

Oh Boy! Now I have "fear of the Hornworm!"
Wilson is still young so no Hornworms for him yet.... but after seeing that now I don't know that he will ever savor one! lol... Well unless I hand feed it!

Hornworms are good feeders, so i wouldn't say neglect feeding them out of fear, but like others have said, maybe put them in a plastic cup or something they won't grip well. It just looks like their grip on a branch could hurt a chams tongue to me. I Wanted to see what others thought...EVerytime i see something like this i think of one of the horror stories of "my chams tongue just fell off"

on a side note, I find that when my cham is well hydrated, his tongue is much less sticky and seems to be better at shooting at things and not sticking--I've only ever had problems when he was dehydrated--although this doesn't apply to the hornworm scenario where the worm is just gripping hard.

Didn't like his tongue being pulled like that...I thought it was funny when he was eating...he's like dam what's that thing in my face trying to eat lol hahaha:eek::eek:

My cham had zero issues pulling hornworms in with her tongue, and she is pretty small. They werent full grown monsters like that though. The one that stuck to whatever it was clinging to did get torn in half for its efforts lol.
