It finally happened

So it's been several months since Gizmo came to live with us. His cage, lighting, misting, feeding etc have all been upgraded since he first came home and I think we have finally hit on the right amount of plants, branches, vines and privacy to make him happy.

Any time I feed, water or clean his cage I leave the door open while I work, even if my hands aren't in the cage. Well today while I was cleaning poop he climbed down and walked onto my hand and went up my arm. The first time I have ever held him! I let him lead and just tried to be as still and calm as possible. He climbed to my shoulder, and then turned around and climbed back off and into his cage.

I know he will most likely never be a cham that comes out and explores every time the door is opened, but this felt like a HUGE step forward today!

Just keep doing what your doing. Keep trying to be, as... Ugh I can't think of the word. Unobtrusive doesn't seem right. Anyway just don't let him take his own pace and to encourage him just go about your business as if he isn't even there. It will make you seem less threatening by far.

Pascal [male panther] just crawled out of his cage, onto my arm twice just a little ago, but in an attempt to get out of his cage. At least he fears me less. He's was pretty mad that I put him back in.
