Its the bo-daggit!

Just thought i'd share some pics of male veiled, bo-daggit. I got him from Lost Lake Chams on march 11th and I think he was between 2 1/2 to 3 months old. He has already shed twice and is about due for another, eats and craps like a horse and has a pretty fierce temper and likes to bite! He's still my little baby though and the only cham I have right now and I hope you like the pics!

Oh one more thing.... if anyone notices anything weird with his eyes feel free to say something. They probably look ok in these pics but for the past week or so it seems as though his eyes look a little more sunk in his head and more wrinkly. They dont seem to be bothering him or anything, just something I noticed and thought maybe it was the start of something I should take of care of now if its a problem.

Well it just started maybe a week ago so if you could see anything it would be in the last 5 pics i posted since I took those today. I think he hates the camera even more than he hates my face so its hard to get a good close pic where hes holding still but ill try and get one tomorrow and post it.

I use repcal calcium with d3 about twice to three times a month, repcal calcium without d3 every other day, and herptivite a couple times a month.

Well i managed to get him to hold still for a couple minutes and got a few pics of his eye. His left one seems to worse so i just got that one for now. His eye just seems to have alot more wrinkles all of a sudden than it ever had. Hopefully you can see what im talking about, if not ill try and get a better pic tomorrow.

I can see what your concerned about. I would say they are a little sunken. How often do you mist? Do you have a dripper running? How is the humidity during the day? How do his urates look, are they white? I've noticed that my boy Jake has BULGING eyes. They weren't always like that. I am not sure if its just age or he drinks more than before. My other guy Fred has always had sunken eyes. I asked around and asked two Vets, both vets and everyone I talked to said that some chams have eyes that are more sunken then others.

how's his urate look like?
any discoloration?
His eyes do looked sunken a bit.
But, there is nothing to get panic at.
my cham also has that sunken eye look (like yours).
but, after couple of visit to the vet, basically he says that is just how his eyes look like.
(and the vet is very knowledgeable in chameleon).

You can always introduce him to silkie or hornworms (especially hornworms).
They have high water content.

His urates look pretty good, pretty much all white. I have started misting him about 4 times a day due to how cold and dry it is up here in the mountains this time of year. I had him in an aquarium for a little bit when i first got him and his eyes looked great, all nice and big and buldged like the pic summoner12 posted. I just recently moved him into a 22 gallon terrarium and that seems to be when i started noticing it. Is this sort of thing usually a sign of dehydration? I mist him alot and i usually see him drink so im not sure

We have one male veiled cham whose eyes get like that when he's needing more vitamin supplement. Not the mineral, but the vitamin. I step up his vitamin supplement schedule a bit and it clears up. You may want to try that. But don't go crazy with it. I mean I just increase the frequency a step at a time and see how it goes. Their metabolism is a little slow, so sometimes the changes don't take place overnight. But our cham started looking better right away.

What is the humidity inside or next to the enclosure?. If you don't have one already, buy one of those digital combo temp/humidity meters. They're about $13-$20 at places like Lowe's. You'll want to keep the humidity above 40%. You may need to add a room humidifier. If your humidity is running a lot below 40% then it may be to cause or at least a contributer to the eye issue.

I was trying to show how my cham's eyes appear to be sunken but are fine. His eyes are not bulging like my other cham Jake.

Dave do you have a picture of your veiled you could share? I know your boy has some HUGE eyes lol.

BTW they try to eat leaves in order to hydrate sometimes... I would see about getting a room humidifier for the drier times of the year. I know how dry it gets in CO lol. I was there for a couple of weeks in winter once and every time i touched something metal I would get a nasty static shock. It wasn't pleasant! haha

Keep in mind veileds also suck in their eyes when their pissed off so dont let that fool you.

Ive actually got a humidifier that i run non-stop and it keeps it between 55 and 65% around his cage so I figured with 3-5 good mistings a day he should be getting enough humidity. Do you guys think maybe a warm shower might help this? Ive never giving a chameleon a shower before so any helpful tips would be wonderfull!

The only time he seems to try and eat leaves is when i am misting so im sure you are right there. Im gonna try and find him a different plant that he can actually bite through and eat. And yes, the static electricity up here is freaking ridiculous! I actually got shocked a couple times today that almost buckled my knees. WHAT A JOY!

he may just be adjusting to the less humidity from the glass aquarium to the open air cage if i read that right. keep up the misting and maybe give him a good warm shower if you can. are you keeping a dripper cup on top of his cage? if his personality begins getting more sluggish i would suggest bringing him to a vet just to be sure

Ive got a big disposable plastic cup that ive made into a halfassed dripper but I dont use it much. I dont have any sort of mist setting on my showerhead so what would be the best way to give him a shower?
