Jackson Cham and Enclosure

Hey Everyone,

My first post, but anyway I have a few questions about my cham and her enclosure.

First off, this is my first cham and I'm in love with her. She is a Jackson Chameleon and I'm guessing around 2-3 months old. Shes healthy and loves running around her hole cage.

Her cage is a Exo-terra Screen cage 24x18x24, which fits her perfectly as of now. The cage has a log running up along side along with some sticks and vines running all over the cage.

Plants: I have a fake wall of ivy that I got from Jo-Ann's Fabrics and real plant that I'm not sure of the name is. This is the picture of it though, can someone assure me that this plant is ok to be in her cage with her?

I guess my question is A) is that plant ok to have with her and B) will I need to buy her a larger cage once she gets bigger? If so, what age should I get her it at?

Welcome. Don't know about the plant but what about showing us pics of your whole enclosure and your chameleon? We love pictures on here

haha once I steal my girlfriends or roommates camera I definitely will

I like the chameleon and the cage looks good. I am not sure about the plant but if she starts eating it or something then you might want to reconsider but i wouldnt worry to much about it. try and get the name of it and then it will be much easier

She looks very pretty. But I think shes 6 month or so not 3. If i were you I'd go get a ficus and a schefflera. Go to Lowes or HD. Just watch the supplements with Jacksons and don't dust your feeders too heavily.

If the tree looks like a palm tree its a Yucca wich is non toxic The only problem with them is their leaves get sharp and are hard to grip. The only real problem you will have is its a desert tree might die fast with all the water.

Yeah and I am prob off by a little. She's almost full grown. You picked a geat species. Also with them being live bearing you don't have to worry about a laying bin and infertile eggs/impaction. So good luck w/her and use this site.

If you have a hard time finding a schefflera or ficus. Get a couple of star of jasmine plants and put them in one pot. They are viney and the bloom. They are non-toxic and will fill a cage in nicely like a pothos only i think much prettier in the enclosure. they are cheap also. These are one of the few plants i think i see growing inmy cage most have to be rotated outside on occasion to get sun and recover. I use two bulbs for my cages also. one for uvb one plant light.

How do you plant it in your cage? In a pot? Is it possible to plant it on the ground? I'm just curious because that is beautiful and would like to add that to my glass enclosure.

Lighting?

What kind of lighting are you using for her? From the first picture ( titled "Her Cage" ) it looks like the lighting you are using could be potentially harmful. Do you have a UVA/UVB linear tube bulb? I didn't see one in the picture. But I could be wrong.

Am I mistaken?

It looks like your drip pan at the bottom of the cage doesn't have any kind of covering. If she falls into that, she's not going to be able to get out. I'd put some mesh over it.

Small enclosures don't always need a linear tube. It's only suggested to use them. You still can use coil bulbs but you should watch for the manufacturers date as the old ones have had issues in the past.

Sorry i didnt read all your post. I guess you may be able to plant them in a terrarium. I don't know how theyd do with constantly soaked roots. I think youd have to set up real good drainage or they die from root rot.
