Jackson chameleon lifespan

Hi everyone, so I'm looking to get a jackson and have been doing a lot of reading. I wanted to know what is the general lifespan f a male jackson chameleon. Hopefully you all can speak from experiece to help give me a rough estimate. Thanks for all your help in advance!

I cant speak from experience but this from the care sheets in the resources tab: "Lifespan:
With proper husbandry Jackson's chameleons can live 3-6 years on average. "

longevity

I would agree with 3-6 years as an average.

I read in an older chameleon manual about 15 or so years ago, and the author of this book claimed he had Jacksons live for up to 16 years in captivity. I wonder what his secret was, or if this is even possible. I have had veiled live for about 9 years, and was under the understanding that Jacksons live longer than veiled because their metabolism is a lot slower. That makes this bit of information a little disappointing. I was hoping to have my girl a lot longer than 3-6 years. What is the longest lived jacks you ever heard of?

I rarely hear of people having Jackson's for long periods of time. I currently have a Xantholophus and a Jacksonii Jacksonii that are 5 years old. I also have a Meru that is at least 4 years old. I can't imagine one living 16 years.

my male passed away at around 5.5 yrs - due in part to something out of my control when I went away - but even if this had not happened , I could tell he was on his was out - he had really slowed down, and I don't think he would have ever seen 6 - but I also think it depends alot on the care - did it get a good healthy start in life - was it always well taken care of - even a short time w/ a bad owner can do damage to organs , bones, eyes , ect - listen to Action Jackson- he is THE man ;) when it comes to any type of Jax :)

In a few older books/articles, lifespans of 9 years are claimed.

In literature things like lifespan and size of most reptiles tend to be repeated that are usually the extreme records. For example- yes an iguana might live 25 years and might reach 6.5 ft in length, but most healthy individuals will live 10-15 years (with good care) and reach more like 4 to 5 ft in length.

The other interesting thing is that most of the extremely long lived individuals I have seen pictures of (for example the iguana or two that I've seen that were supposedly over 20 years of age) appeared rather small and look a bit malnurished rather than big, robust individuals. So go figure on that one- maybe reduced caloric intake and low metabolism lengthen lifespan.
