jacksons baby chameleons

I have sixteen baby jacksons chameleons that were born on july 28 at 9 30 AM. Therefore, they are going on there second week now. They are all in a medium size exo terra terrarium. Ive been feeding them a 50/50 of pin head crickets and fruit flies. I know that jacksons chameleons only have a 20% survival rate, but these little guys all look great even the ones i thought were going to go, are eating fruit flies now. I would only like to raise them till i can pick out a male. Then i am looking into selling them.

Any way, i have a few questions on these little guys. This is all a first time experience for me.

When are they going to need to be separated into their own cages?
When should i be able to determine male from female?
What is a good price for me to sell them?
Should i still expect to loose any of them since their survival rate is so low?

And is anyone going to be interested in buying?
Keep in mind i live in Michigan...

If you can answwr any of these questions it would be greatly appreciated.

From my experience as well as talking with people who've had several clutches of Jackson's, they seem do well for the first several months rather than weeks, and then start dropping. Liddy Kammer told me she doesn't consider Jackson's solid until they're 5 months old. I think the most successful litters have been raised almost entirely outdoors and high humidity is important.

As for determining male from female, I assume you have the Ch. j. xantholophus subspecies? If so, the males' little horn buds should start showing some development soon. I think your pricing should reflect their age at selling.

thats a little hard to hear that they do bad around the 7 month mark.


the pet store near me they just had their breeder female give birth to about 20 or so, 2 or 3 were missing their left eye but still seem to be doin Ok and eating just fine. the guys at pets inc are really good with their reptiles., i think this up coming friday will be week 3 for them.

i was going to wait another 3-4 weeks till i purchased one. im new to chameleons but not exotic animals ive kept my poison darts alive for a very long time now.


would it be advisable to hold off on my purchase? i have plenty of friends that own chameleons and i can get help anytime in need from pets inc.

check out what they are going for at the time you want to sell and go from there.

yours will command less than those because you are not known.

looks like the average price range is about 75-90. for juveniles-adults.



not including shipping.

thats not to bad in all honesty. just id be worried about shipping and more then likely would never order an animal online to be sent through the postal/ parcel services we use just doesn't seem humane.

Baby Jackson's Chameleon

Hi jackson community, I'm new here and I have some questions, Im from Hawaii and I really really want a Jackson chameleon, the only thing is I want it as a baby so it can get use to me and my daughter. What should I do? I googled some stuff about caring baby Jackson's I even emailed some Jackson owners and asked them for some tips but I'm still worried for my little guy or girl can u guys please please please help me out. I'm most likely getting them 3 next week. How big duz the cage need to be and can i keep them in the same cage?Can I keep them out side once I got them? Or do I really have to keep them inside? I don't have the money to get the UVB lights and such but I have enough for there food and stuff. I would love to have some pointers and tips to care for them thank u and mahalo.
