When you view entries for Jan 09 contest I noticed that there's a Best Photos 2008 thread. Is this a separate competiton for all 2008 monthly contest winners? Sounds interesting!!

Why does someone keep taking my picture off? Whats your deal?

The photo can only be removed by an admin and it was probably removed because of these two of the rules of the photo contest:

"- The chameleon must be in good health (wild chams excluded).
- The photo must show signs of good husbandry."

Your photo is of a jacksonii female that you are holding under a water faucet (horrible husbandry) that is gasping for air (not really a sign of the epitome of good health). This is equivalent to holding your head under a waterfall so that you can drink. Your photo is probably being removed because it essentially qualifies as animal abuse.

Chris

Yikes, that is bad. Its back up again. OC, I hope you understand that you could kill your chameleon doing that.

Bad husbandry? I'm a responsible pet owner. I'm an adult, so speak to me like one. I don't hold them under water and drown them. The water is hitting her back. She loves the warm water to massage her. Don't be telling me I am an animal abuser Chris Anderson. Maybe thats your impression, but I'm telling you to take it back.

and who says its wild? I didn't say that.

ocdirtyjerz - You asked a question and I answered it. If you don't like the answer, that's your issue, not mine. There is no good reason to hold a chameleon under a sink faucet. Its stressful, can result in aspiration of the water or other issues. She definitely does not appear to love it. The bottom line is this is poor husbandry and she appears to be gasping for air in the photo.

Maybe thats your impression, but I'm telling you to take it back.

Ohh, well in that case...:p

and who says its wild? I didn't say that.

That was a quote from the photo contest rules. Wild animals are excluded from that rule and since yours is not in the wild, it isn't excluded from the rule and thus, the photo violates it.

Chris

Ocdirtyjerz,

I see why you could mistake that for her enjoying it......your not grasping her there and she's not running away. I and others aparently think that she is scared. That may be why she's not moving.

BUT, even if she does like it, one wrong move on her part or yours and she gets a very forceful mouthful of water that could very well drown her.......she doesn't need to be held under water to be drowned. A little lungful could do it or start a respitory infection.

Not picking on you just trying to point out a few things you might not have thought of.

Kevin

Yeah Chris, we already heard the, "if you don't like the answer, thats your issue," deal before and so forth.

and....I saw the rules. You put two out of all the rules up there. So what would you expect me to think you mean.

Kevin,
Of course, I can understand how some of you may be putting it. I am very knowledgeable of animals and weather I'm hurting them. I understand the drowning issue, being that I am a very active surfer and waterman. I would never do anything to hurt an animal. My chams like to be rinsed under the faucet. They have the choose to climb away.
When they see the water the charge for it. I have alwys taken them to the beach here in Hawaii, I assume they hear it and see it not as a threat. Plus it rains very often here on the islands. Regardless, I am telling you I don't harm my animals, nor is every animal the same. I care for mine everyday and know their personalities. Thanks for explaining that I little better Kevin.
Aloha

You are correct, I only posted two of the numerous rules. Those two were the two rules that answered your question. The others were irrelevant and listing all of them would have been pointless.

Be sure to keep us all updated with how they are doing come 6 months or so from now. I would seriously recommend against holding them under the faucet anymore and unnecessary handling/traveling (ie: taking them to the beach).

Chris

Only a subset of the entries make it to the public vote. We had 50 entries. The entry reduction phase will end later today and at that time voting will begin.

WOW I must really stink at taking pics and choosing which one to post for the contest......I thought for sure I had a finalist this time I figured 3rd or 4th.

Oh well. I can never figure it out.

Try again for Feb! :D

Kevin

The entry phase has ended and voting will now begin. Whether your photo made it to the public vote or not, you are welcome to request more details on how your photo was graded - send me a pm.

Poo mine didnt make it either.:( Oh well! Good luck and Congrats to those who did!!

I'm always curious why a pic doesn't make it..........I don't want to ask about because I'm sure you're very busy and your time is better used on this forum.

Thanks,
Kevin

Is that Leo, the next to last? Chris submitted the pic but I think its him! :)
