Johnstonii Copulation!!

I am very excited to share with all that the Johnstonii locked up today.

I will start by sharing that it has been a tough road. The female came in gravid and struggled to lay. She dropped eggs throughout the cage and none of them were viable. I imagine that the timing on the import along with how gravid many of the females were contributed to a number of issues.

As you can imagine, I was concerned with her health.

Through the help of a good vet and some tremendous focus on her husbandry and feeding, she has really come along.

The male has always been solid.

Today I figured I would allow her to see him through the screen as she was showing what I felt were very receptive colors. She not only did not show any hostility, she started head bobbing!

I placed him into her cage, he started bobbing, and within minutes they were locked up.

Here are some pics below of the 3 minute process. I knew I should have grabbed the video camera, but honestly I didnt except her to accept.

At this point they have been locked in the same position for at least 15 minutes and as much as I want to go look closely to make sure he has penetrated, I am trying to leave them alone.

I will keep all posted.

They were locked together (hopefully) for 17 minutes at which point he moved away and she looks like this.
